Vieira: 'We don't need Ronaldo'
Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira has insisted Gunners striker Thierry Henry is better than Ronaldo, after the Brazilian hinted he would like to join the London club.
The Brazilian ace said on Friday that he would consider a move to Arsenal after being branded self-indulgent by his Real Madrid boss Vicente del Bosque.
The World Player of the Year, who arrived at the Bernebeu in a £20m move from Inter Milan last summer, has been criticised for not being a committed team player.
But Frenchman Vieira told BBC London: "We have Thierry Henry and at the moment he's better than Ronaldo. Thierry is fantastic for us so we don't need anybody else."
Ronaldo said talking to Real team-mate Steve McManaman has aroused his interest in joining an English Premiership club.
"Steve has told me many times that in England I would score goals for fun," Ronaldo told The Sun.
"Arsenal are one of the great traditional English clubs so perhaps I should go and play for them.
"The idea of taking my career to the Premiership is very attractive.
"I know a lot about English football and admire the achievements of Manchester United and Arsenal."
A switch to Arsenal would pair the World Cup's golden boot with French strike star Thierry Henry, as well as fellow Brazilian Gilberto Silva.
Del Bosque, who has led the Spanish giants to two European Cups, said: "Ronaldo is like a little self-governing island all to himself within our squad.
"He has not made Real Madrid worse - but he has not improved it either.
"As a coach , if you are happy with somebody behaving like that because he thinks he is a star then fine.
"If not, you find someone else who follows team rules."
