was awesome today, wouldnt mind Fergie adding him to the squad. Certainly looking to be back or getting back to his best. Ronny or Cisse? Ronny for me on that form everytime.

Denilson also warrants a mention. He was class today, totally turning the fullbacks inside out.I was watching him thinking how much Giggs really relies on his speed, & doesnt have the tricks in his box that this guy has.

Giggs has never relied just on his speed. Giggs is one of the best dribblers in the World imo.

Secondly, Denilson isa Brazillain and he is also
truly two footed unlike Giggs. Hence, he does more with his skills. He would be a nice buy butJuve seem to be about to sign him. For Ronny? He will always be class. Just a pity Inter changed their mind about selling him. :)

he'll go where Nike tells him to..

well thats what he told Bobby Robson when at Barca.

Ronaldo looked awesome today. He hasn't played much football in the last four years but he is still only twenty-five. I don't know how much he would cost but he would be worth every penny. Nike would love to see him in a United shirt and so would the fans.

There has been talk of us going for the likes of Robert Earnshaw and Paulo Di Canio but put simply Ronaldo is a class apart.

If he continues to play like he did against the Turks today the two times World Player of the Year will become the three times World Player of the Year.

He would flog a bit of merchandise too...

The perfect buy. ;)

The plc doesnt care if he is injured as long as he sells merchandise.Every buy have to have a merchandise value. That doesnt fit in on Forlan though.

Ronaldo has a chance of being the new No. 9 because:

1. Nike tells him what to do.

2. He will sell merchandise, get Utd. into the Brazillian Market, to put it crudely.

3. He will be a good signing for the team in terms of talent.

However:

1. He keeps getting injured

2. He is a superstar and Utd. don't really sign ready made foreign superstars...but that changed with Veron...so you never know.

To the question of why he jumped with both feet to score, Ronaldo answered he was worried about lunging with one leg and one sort of "coiled/held" back (as everyone does!) because he didn't want to fall with all his weight on it.

Sound. But then, it just shows he isn't THAT confident about being back form injury and having to change the way you naturally/easily do things can't be good?!?!

On Denilson, he is very inconsistent. Right now he is going through one of his best moments but I watched him playing for Flamengo (on loan, would have been cheap then!) about an year ago and he was really pants. A lot of nice footwork but ineffective more often than not.

Yes, but my point is the lack of confidence is still there.

I had a knee injury (not nearly as bad as his) and had to drop rugby and football altogether. My worry on what position my knee was and how to avoid it getting in the wrong position/risking it screwed up my game. To this day it affects me psychologically to the point of avoiding certain KamaSutra positions :D (have a really funny story but don't know if this is the place!).

When you start changing the way you play in order to accomodate for your knee problems you start giving up on certain aspects of your game (even avoid certain encounters/potential tackles, etc. The way you do things revolves around your knee, not what is best to do but what is best to do given your knee worry. Do you think he can just keep jumping with his two feet up front forever? (it would be quite funny if he always scored like that actually).

i know u make a good point Ant, but id like to give the guy the benefit of the doubt after all he's been through. Im enjoying seeing the glimpses of the old Ronaldo coming back again, because for me he in full flow is the most exciting player in the world to watch. He's only 25 and god-willing he's still got plenty of time to win that world player of the year award for a 3rd time.

I've never seen Keano worry about how he plays despite having a major knee injury. Same goes for Johnsen. However, maybe it's different for a player like Ronaldo that was once considered the best player in the world.

If we sign Ronaldo and Nesta this Summer, it would be like winning the lottery for me.

Today I saw an awesome clip of Ronaldo scoring a goal against Argentina pre-injury. If he can reach anything like that form within the next few years he will be absolutely unstoppable.

I have read that Inter want him to take a pay cut. Good for us no? :)

i wouldn't mind swapping veron for ronaldo, and buying someone like nesta, and maybe get de's allessandro (right spelling?)or another up and coming player, who is a good playmaker.

The issue is not starting to cheat yourself and "work your way around it". Ronaldo is a bit suspect on the psychological front (fits due to pressure before WC final, crying about his total impotence in the Inter-Lazio game) so the reason why he jumped that way worried me.

Of course, I would love to see him back, he is a world apart from the rest. When you think he is 25 and won the WC in 94 -and that Brazilians back then already demanded him being played instead of Bebeto or Romario- you do have to give him some credit!

You have a point but do not forget in Alex Ferguson we possess a great man manager. If anyone can get the best out of Ronaldo it is Sir Alex.

Hi ant, interesting story - how did you get over your injury?

I have a knee injury too and I can relate to players like Ronaldo and RVN. Except I dont get expensive surgery. It goes away with rest but comes back with sports etc and needs a few days of rest again *sigh*

Gone are my Giggs like dribbles cos my knee is too weak. I have to make do with Beckham style passes instead

Well... I just didn't. The doctor I could afford said the surgery I could afford had a 70% chance of success and a 30% chance of resulting in me limping for the rest of my life. At 19 that wasn't a very encouraging prospect

Basically I cannot exert too much pressure on it and mainly avoid twists and turns. I had to give up team sports altogether and keep myself fit jogging down Copacabana :D

Haven't given up Giggs dribbles though. The world has lost a hard tackling decent-ball-passing central midfielder ;)
