Inter have confirmed that they will kick out the phenomenon after the World cup. So for Fergie the question is to "Ronaldo" or not to "Ronaldo"? That is the question. I think he would be twice the bargain van the man was with his injury

if he can sort out his injuries and bad attitude and regain some hunger and ambition i would love to see him at OT but like i feel for any big name signings this summer they should only happen AFTER the defence is PROPERLY sorted.

The price of RONALDO would also be a HUGE factor !, if its gonna be a some obsurd amount of money and UTD actually have it to spend (after defencive purchaces) then i would rather we went after a sure thing eg VERI .

He's probably in the contract. They make our shirts we have to have him!

Seriously, Nike would certainly would encourage signing him the merchandising for them would be huge and to be honest I think he could do a decent job for us. Alex Ferguson has a habit of getting the best out of players and if thgere is one man in the world who could get him playing again its Sir Alex.

he just scored 2 goals saving inter from defeat by brescia and keep inter at the top of seria a, we should have em, well but i do love ole-rvn

The question is... how long will he be able to play?? - Let's see if he gets through this match without hurting himself, okay?

He looked spritely in the Feyenoord game the other day. His skill was still there but he didn't look as explosive as he did say 3 years ago.

If indeed he is let go and Fergie can get him for less than £15m, he may be worth the risk. Didn't Ruud play in the same team as him at PSV?

Trouble is though, I think his pay demands would be way too high for the plc to entertain.

As regards Vieri ... Forget it, he's the hottest property in Italy and there's no way he's going anywere; Inter are in the CL next year so they'll be looking to strengthen rather than rebuild.

If Ronaldo was to come, I think the cost would be around £20 million and with the new Nike deal coming into affect at the start of next season maybe the money from that could finance a possible deal. The money could be recouped probably during the season and the PLC would possibly like it as well as the merchandise revenue with the possibility of opening the already large south American market. On top of this you would have quite possibly the most formidable strike force in the world and if Ronaldo was to recover fully from his recent injuries and have the effect that Van Nistlerooy had after his injury it would be a lethal combination. Who knows this deal may come?

The gap toothed one will never be the same player he was 3 or 4 years ago.Haven't we got enough striking talent as it is.SAF should be concentrating on sorting out the defence over the summer.

yep defence problems are the most important thing to do for united next year, since our midfielders can even score goals as well, we do only need defenders

Not sure if Ronaldo is the one we need, but I think we definitely need another striker. Disco is as good as gone, so we need another to make up the 4 forward places that Sir Alex thinks we need to challenge on all fronts.

Ronaldo does not look as explosive as 3 years ago because he is not yet match fit. Let him stay uninjured for the next six games then you will tell me he is not still the phenomenon! And about going forward, we need some one to play in the hole like Giggs has been doing of late, but some one who unlike Giggs who is a natural finisher. A player possesing the ability to drop off slightly into midfield taking the second center back with him and having the ability to beat 3 or 4 players with speed and skill. (that is why fergie wanted rivaldo) Only Ronaldo, Shevchenko, Kluivert, Rivaldo, Ortega and Delpiero play like that. That has been our greatest weakness going forward. Having a half 9 is what helped Barca whip defensive Liverpool at anfield. Bayer used Neuvilee in that role and it had the same effect.
To be honest, not having Giggs on the left takes something from our game. Thus, unless we get his replacement on the left so that Giggs can become a permanent striker (i.e like Djordic) we need a half 9 like Ronaldo. Without such a talent United can not go to the next level of being unstoppable in Europe even if we had the best defence on Earth. Besides Fergie looks set to land ayala and Reitzeiger in the summer. He will the only need Irwin's replacement at the back and then he can get us that type of player. ;)

You have some good points, especially the point about a "half 9". We have Hughes, Cantona and Sheringham in that position before and now Giggs seems doing very good in that position, except that he's not a natural finisher. But the potential "half 9" you mentioned are all going to cost a hugh sum, I suspect we may go for someone who is less profilic. Besides, I wander why you're so sure we will get Ayala and Reitzeiger?

It doesnt matter whether he will play as a half 9 or not, he is the best player in the world when fit. Zidane? Figo? Ronaldo eclipses them all. At Man Utd he will score a record breaking amount of goals I'm sure.

Everyone goes on about Cisse and Owen etc, but these guys aren't a patch on a fit Ronaldo. But of course the important word there is FIT.

It'd be great to see him here, but I think we should resign ourselves to the fact that we'll never attract the big south american stars simply because we're in England and our weather sucks.

Those who DO come struggle like mad (Veron?), Ronaldo would probably get upset and homesick meaning more injuries.

Hopefully the guy can stay fit from now on cos he is great to watch.

I still remember when Fergie had lunch with Ronaldo during the world club championships of 2000. It was shown on TV and then Ronaldo was interviewed afterwards.

He said in that interview that he would love to play in England and if he did, it would be for Manchester United.

Fingers crossed then. Who can honestly say they wouldn't be excited at the prospect of having him in the team.

Of course he would have to displace one of our world class strike partnership.

Long live Ole and Ruud! :)
