Would Inter sell Ronaldo this summer? If so, how much would he cost with his injury concerns?

If Ronaldo could be had for say 25-30m, would you rather SAF purchase him, another world class striker, or a quality 3rd/4th choice guy? Ronaldo is the type of player that can turn a game around on his own, when healthy. He has won at every level and dominated competition. He's not yet 26 and is entering his prime years, if only he can stay healthy. He would bring even more global appeal the world's most recognizable sports club. So more money pores into the money making machine that is Manchester United.

I would gamble on Ronaldo, only if the price was right. He'd have to accept wages on par with Keane and Becks. Nothing above 100k per week or no deal.

I would also send Veron to Lazio in a swap for Nesta and the remaining monies owed for the Stam deal. Veron wants to go back to Lazio and they want him. Nesta is on his way out, IMO. I think United should sign D'Allesandro as backup for Becks/Giggs. In 2 years time, D'Allesandro will be ready to push one of our 4 midfielders (maybe sooner). Keane may retire around that time and Becks could move to CM allowing D'Allesandro to start at RW. I think signing young players and allowing them 1-2 years to learn from the veterans would be in the best interest of United. That said, maybe Cisse would be the better investment for United, for they need another striker.

Perhaps United should do this in the summer:

Pre-contracts with Auxerre to ensure Cisse and Mexes come to OT in 2003. They would play next season for Auxerre then move on to United in June 2003. Total price 18-30m (escalators based on the duo's performances would push cost up).

United sign Johnsen and Blanc to one year deals. Irwin departs on a free transfer. Phil Neville could be sold for 4m, but give him one more seaoson at OT. United's defense on paper. Blanc retires after Treble II and Mexes takes his spot on roster in 2003.
CB- Nesta, Blanc, Johnsen, O'Shea
FB- GNeville, Silvestre, Brown, PNeville

United send Veron to Lazio in exchange for Nesta. Chadwick is sold for 2m. D'Allesandro would come in and claim the backup at wing, making Chadwick and Fortune expandable.
WM- Becks, Giggs, D'Allesandro, Djordjic
CM- Keano, Scholes, Butt, Fortune

Bring in Paulo DiCanio for one season, perhaps two. Sell Yorke for 5-7m. Cisse arrives in 2003 and PDC moves on after winning Treble II.
F- van Nistelroy, Solskjaer, DiCanio, Forlan

This will never happen, but one can dream.

Eh, heard it all before.

SAF has shown he tends to sign lesser known players, not the big names, usually because of our purse strings. The likes of Veron will rarely be repeated. Expect some signings, but not the WC team of the Tournament.

:)

He has been vastly reported to have over-exerted his knee while training up his personal strenght at a very young age ... the moneyman in the board room won't take such a risk anyway ... Forget abt him !!

I would also send Veron to Lazio in a swap for Nesta and the remaining monies owed for the Stam deal. Veron wants to go back to Lazio and they want him. Nesta is on his way out, IMO.
Doubtful ... Lazio ain't sell ... looks more likely to buy for now ... and anyway, Nesta will be rated higher than Veron for Lazio 'cos he's the ICON there ..

This looks logical still .. except Nesta, but I believe it's a direct swap to be probably Thuram or Ayala ..

Bollocks !! .. Chadder not going anyway my friend .. .

Sounds reasonable here ..

Ronaldo on current formn and health is likely to go no where. But, he will never be a risk. EVER!!!

I am expecting him to come to OT.

Him and Fergie have met countless times and he is the type of player Fergie likes to take under his wing, shy superstars and all that.
His injuries should'nt be a problem.
Hes tough enough for the premiership.
He would cost far less than 25 mill, 15 imo. Whatever hed cost wed make it overnight in shirt sales.

Id love to see him come to us.

me n all - would be a great addition - with ruud apparently off to barca - and believe that u'll believe anything he says hopefully

True, and it would comlpetely change the prem if Ronaldo came to OT, with Owen off to Real and Henry headed to Serie-A again.

i'd like to see him in a united shirt! how great that would be ( as long as he keeps fit) :D

and Campbell join White Hart Lane again after he apparently head-butt Wenger in a training session 'cos he is really not happy with the new jersey having a sponsor named 0-2 !!

Come on ... is that too much Championship Manager again here ? ... Ronaldo ... ..
I am really surprise to even see ppl "believing" it here ...

with the nike deal coming in and nike own him they may put up the cash for a possible deal.

Ronaldo looked terrible in the Inter-Lazio game, and I was suprised that Cuper kept him on for almost 75 minutes. It would be a minor miracle if he regains the form that he once showed.

Expecting? Would the board sanction such a move with wages, transfer fees and all that?

The answer is no

Best striker in the world though - the only forward I have seen who can hold off two markers sandwiching him and score at the same time

No south american has ever done that well EPL any money spent onthe big names is wasted.Stay with the europeans at least they can handle the cold and the rain.

SAF wouldn't pay so much for a player who is injury prone and living on a reputation built over a very small period of time.
I agree stick with Europeans

cuper wonted to get rid of ronaldo in beging of the last season but nobody wanted him and after the world cup anything could hapen.

I keep on hearing this story around and about, mainly because of the whole nike connection, its utter bollocks, mouth watering but bollocks, sorry kemo! ;)
