Evra is the main reason why Ronaldo is better on the left wing. The understanding these two have is awesome.

The flicks and tricks by them two today was wonderful... Ronnie should definately start on the left every game.

Only downside is the possiblilty of being caught out.

A Stoke fan rung up 606 specifically to praise our Patrice, commending both his attacking and defensive abilities.

As to your main point, although the left flank was a massive outlet as went our attacking play, it did begin to have a predictable air to it, and the right suffered noticeably particularly in the first half. Was most effective against Stoke although a better side would explit the inbalance and attempt to close off the tactic. Of course with such players as Evra and Cristiano an opponent could only limit us so far.

So we'd need to come by a preferred pairing on the right flank also. However this isn't helped with the erratic nature to our full back selections for one reason or another. And Nani is stil a WIP, patience.

Mind you, if we look back to last season, one of the beauties of our playing style and key reason for its lethality was how the players flotated all over the place, a flexibility difficult to guess at. The um...duos on eitherside of the pitch aren't as rigid as they once might have been tasked to be in the past.

Great post. IMHO I honestly doubt they'd get caught out much. Going forward they are a nightmare to contain. While Evra normally almost never has trouble getting back on time and Ronaldo does his fare share of tracking back for a person who doesn't have that as a strength of his game.

Ronaldo seems to be far better on the left than he is on the right. This is obviously down to his great understanding with Evra. Also when Ronaldo plays on the left as opposed to the right, he seems to track back and defend more. He has to though as Evra is so attacking. They worked great as a left wing partnership yesterday.

True. I feel Rafael-Park would be an excellent right sided partnership to have since Park would offer the little Brazilian a lot of protection. But for me a Hargreaves-Rafael combo would have been the best though. For Hargreaves would easily drop to right back and let Rafael loose in attack. Oh well..

I completely agree with you on the Park-Rafael combo, it is something I certainly think could work in the future, you wouldnt want Rafael behind someone like Nani, but yeah the work rate from park and rafa would be great. We shall see, it seems as though United have some young players who are gonna make it from the youth ranks, this pleases me

Agree. Ronaldo does his work for the team in terms of tracking back. He's probably not good at defneding, but he's an extra body there that helps out.

On top of your Hargreaves - Rafael combination, the Park - Hargreaves combination on the right worked wonders as well last season, particularly against Roma.

Neville + Ronaldo on the right wing in 06-07 >>>> Evra + Ronaldo on the left wing

How many chances did we create from the left wing in the last game ? I dont think there was even a single great chance created. And Ron-Evra were up against possibly the oldest-slowest right back in the league.

Neville may not have the skill on the ball that Evra does but his crosses were brilliant every time he overlapped past Ronaldo. Evra goes past a defender and his cross invariably hits the first defender in the box.

And coupled with the fact Carrick, Rio and Vidic can all squeeze over and eliminate the space they leave when they are upfield i agree no problem getting exposed with these 2 on the same flank.

Mind you, give Rafael a few months and then imagine Ronaldo / Rafael combo

Bah, I just want to see Ronaldo, Evra, Rafael and Fabio as the four wide players in a match. Stuff who is in what position, just unleash the lot of them and laugh maniacally.

And then probably watch while the opposition score from a chance created out wide...

I sensed that both Evra and Ronaldo really enjoyed themselves yesterday.

Though one is a defender and the other a striker they have similar characteristics in football: attacking, trickery and quick inter-changing of play.

The other wing will always suffer because there is only one Ronaldo and one Evra. I think Rafael and Nani (once he's more consistant), could come close to the Ronaldo+Evra combination.

Any reason to complain.

The Evra-Ronaldo partnership has been a good partnership for a while now. Obviously the Neville-Ronaldo partnership is going to be better as it was a consistent partnership but if you can't see that Evra and Ronaldo perform well together then you're blind.

I can totally imagine a record-breaking high scoring game that match. Maybe a 14-10 to us.

EDIT: and I totally didn't see your white text before posting this.

Hargreaves rafael sprung to mind before i realised hargreaves was out for the season.

I was sat on the right hand side against Middlesbrough last year at the Riverside, so I could see Ronnie and Evra bombing down the wing in the 2nd half right in front of my eyes, and the pair of them were genuinlly a pleasure to watch. Great players, even better when they're together.

Evra is unbelievably skilful. He did some king of ball-dance down by the corner in the first half that left me breathless.

Ronny looked jealous.

He’s been our player of the season so far for my money along with Fletch.

Evra never fails to stun me with his ability when he plays. expect 6/10 from all the papers however, one of the most vastly underrated players of recent times.

Neville - Ronaldo was at least as good imo, expecially when Ronaldo's crossing was poor when he was younger.

Once again, you can't praise somebody without belittling another's contribution. Neville - Ronaldo was a great partnership and slightly more balanced, but Evra - Ronaldo has been great too.

Both posts so spot on
I've always liked Ronaldo on the left mainly with the Evra connection but also the fact that he come in and have possibilities to either pass or shoot on his prefered foot and therefore cause more damage.
Rafael+ Park could be an interesting combo ,strong defensively and offensively Rafael would be a great asset.

Out of form? In what way?

It's not an Evra rant. I'm just saying that by the exceptional standards he has set, he has not been anywhere near as good. I think as a defensive unit, we have dropped a level this season and Evra is a part of that. VDS, Rio and Vidic have all, relative to the previous 2 seasons, lost form.

I always think that Evra is a fabulous outlet because of the energy of his play, up and down the flank, as well as his great skill. But, at the same time, I reckon that his final ball leaves a lot to be desired.

Our defensive problems this season have been through the centre and with VDS. Evra has been as good this season as he was last season. His positional play is outstanding, his link-up play with ronny, park, nani or whoever it may be has aslo been exceptional. His defensive play has been as solid as it has ever been for my money.

He's been caught out a few times this season to be fair, against Chelsea and Liverpool.

I still think he's played very well, it's not his fault the rest of the defence is a shambles at times, it's Rio's and Vidic's job to sort that out not his.

Vds had a few more flaps again. want foster to be the new number 1 soon, not kuzczack.

Once we get it back to

brown ferdinand vidic evra

The better, rafael, fabio and evans can be back up. mabey nev should retire at the end of the season.

True, but I'm pretty sure he got caught out at least a couple of times last season also. I dont think any full back in the league goes a full camapign without being caught out.

I dont think his form is any worse this season than last.

What we've got to take into consideration is that Patrice Evra is a deity, and that whilst Ronaldo is a fairly good player himself, any player would benefit from playing infront of a supreme being.

When philosophers such as Anselm and Hume were debating the existence of the highest order of being, they were merely demonstrating their ignorance of Patrice Evra.

, your fondness of the omnipotent being never ceases to amaze me.

evra is a super player on the ball, watching him live is amazing. i agree, ronaldo is better on the left when evra is playing.

That sounds like it could be very entertaining to watch.
