TABLOID ROUND-UP
Sunday, March 30

David Beckham will move to Real Madrid - but in a £30 million swap deal which brings Brazilian World Cup winner Ronaldo to Old Trafford, report the Sunday People.

But Big Ron may have a battle on to find a seat in the dressing room, if the tabloids are to be believed. Sir Alex Ferguson could spend £15 million on West Ham striker Jermain Defoe (say The People), Blackburn winger Damien Duff (Sunday Mirror) and Newcastle forward Craig Bellamy (Mirror again).

Beckham may not be the only Premiership star at the Bernabeu, either. The News of the World think he could line up alongside Arsenal's Robert Pires for the reigning European champions.

Over at Anfield, Gerard Houllier could make a double swoop on Fulham for £5 million right back Steve Finnan (Sunday Mirror) and £4.5 million midfielder Steed Malbranque (News of the World), though the tabloids also find room to mention Ajax kid Rafael van der Vaart and West Ham striker Freddie Kanoute.

A third player who could be leaving West Ham is Joe Cole, if the News of the World are to be believed. They think the England international is a £7 million target for Everton.

The Leeds clearout could continue, too, though the News of the World think Paul Robinson will cost Arsenal £10 million and the People are under the illusion Juventus want to sign Ian Harte.

Steve McClaren could continue his spending at Middlesbrough with Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips and Sheffield United midfielder Michael Brown both apparently £4 million targets, while Blackburn could make an ambitious Bosman swoop for Barcelona's Frank de Boer.

Elsewhere, Newcastle's Nikos Dabizas could join Portsmouth, Aston Villa may sign Portuguese starlet Carlos Martins and Sunderland keeper Jurgen Macho could move to Chelsea.

Ronaldo if we need to get players from
Real it must be Raul/Solari.

I would love Ronaldo coming to United, really. The boy is simply stunning. Immense in size and yet a balance like few others. I rate Ronaldo as surely better than Henry, both being the same kinds of players. And if most of us here agree that Henry is the perfect partner for RVN, I think Ronaldo would be an even more perfect partner. He would be awesome, quite simply!

I would not cringe, if that deal were to come through!

Ronaldo is too much to himself for his own good.He is past his peak, fat and even Real fans thinks he is useless. For the money he costs we could get Ronaldinho/Cisse/Totti who can offer more than that TinyIsland. If we need to get a striker from madrid we can opt for Morientez.Tell me how many months he was fully fit after the 1999 season.two months maybe..that was for the WorldCup.Ok he scores.but before Ronaldo started ,Guti was playing and scoring..Just to hightlight the fact that any avarage/decent striker can score for Real considering the midfield depth and supply line they've got.If we need to get any player as the part of Beckhams swap deal it should be Raul not this disruptive oaf.

I think you are being a tad too harsh on Ronaldo. He carried Brazil admirably in the World Cup and I think he has had a decent scoring record with Real. The kind of quality he has does not just vanish like that!

I will definitely prefer Ronaldo to Ronaldinho. Totti, will not be accessible. Cisse, I would not like, I am not sure why, but mainly because I have a 'Heskey' feeling about him.

Can I ask you a question, Vijay? How do you compare Henry and Ronaldo?

Am not trying to compare Ronaldo and Henry.Ronaldo is a great player but past his peak. When he was with Barca and PSV he was the best not now.Henry has superb combination of pace and trickery makes him the best striker in the world in terms of all-round ability. The point i was trying to make is we already have a world class striker in Ruud.what we need is a striker to do the supporting role which wud not suit Ronaldo.

So, I take it then, that you don't consider Henry suitable for the second striker role with us?

Yes Cisse might become a donkey but there are chances that he could become a worldclass player
Ronadinho Totti Henry yes as they could play the role as the withdrawn sriker. Ronaldo problem is with his attitude and fitness not his ability.

Well it certainly give the rumour mongerers something to keep going for a few days. I'd like to say stranger things have happened but if this all comes off next years premiership would be a laugh if nothing else. Personally i think the person who wrote this has been playing too much championship manager.
