Ron Artest

But Mark Stevens, Artest's agent, said in a lengthy statement released late Tuesday that the temperamental swingman preferred not to go:"Ron Artest did not want to be traded to Sacramento weeks ago and he does not want to be traded to Sacramento now. Basketball is Ron Artest's passion.''
"In order for Ron to fully demonstrate his natural skills and abilities, to the best of his abilities, he not only must be in an environment that is conducive to his growth and development as a player, he must also ensure that his family is happy and content as well.
"Ron does not believe that will be the case if he were in Sacramento. Period."

hmmmm....

According to various sports talk segments, Artest agreed to the trade as Pacer management was going to suspend him for conduct detrimental after Artest had on numerous occasions requested a trade, and once a trade was worked out, he refused to accept it. So Pacer management was fed up, was going to suspend him without pay, and Artest knew he would face a lengthy battle with club, NBAPA, and courts to overturn the suspension. He also was aware that if he were suspended, no other club would move for him this season. So he faced the possibility of receiving no pay for the remainder of the season. And if you've listened to Artest over the last 12 months, he's all about money.
