I wouldn't want this guy near my lockerroom if I were a club owner. His defense of his reasoning for going into the stands is comical. Wasn't Ben Wallace "disrespecting" him but he chose to not fight? Just admit it Ron - you were scared shitless of Wallace smashing your face.

Report: Artest replies to Yao, seeks 'commitment' from Rockets

The potential Ron Artest to the Houston Rockets trade may have gotten off on the wrong foot over comments made by Artest's potential teammate, Yao Ming, about Artest's stormy past.

Hopefully, [Artest isn't] fighting anymore and going after a guy in the stands. --Yao Ming

A day after the Rockets and Sacramento Kings agreed in principle to a deal sending Artest to Houston for Bobby Jackson, Donte Greene and a first-round draft pick, Yao expressed concerns about team chemistry to the Houston Chronicle and referenced Artest's involvement in the 2004 brawl with Pistons fans.

"Hopefully, he's not fighting anymore and going after a guy in the stands," Yao said, according to the Chronicle.

When asked about those comments, Artest said Yao had bought into "all the propaganda" about him, according to The Sacramento Bee.

"I understand what Yao said, but I'm still ghetto," Artest said, according to the report. "That's not going to change. I'm never going to change my culture. Yao has played with a lot of black players, but I don't think he's ever played with a black player that really represents his culture as much as I represent my culture. Once Yao Ming gets to know me, he'll understand what I'm about.

If you go back to the brawl, that's a culture issue right there. Somebody was disrespecting me, so he's got to understand where I'm coming from. People that know me know that Ron Artest never changed. -- Ron Artest

"If you go back to the brawl, that's a culture issue right there," Artest added, according to the report. "Somebody was disrespecting me, so he's got to understand where I'm coming from. People that know me know that Ron Artest never changed."

The agreed-to deal sending Artest to Houston cannot become official until Aug. 14. And Artest, who has one year remaining on his contract, also said he was looking for a long-term deal from the Rockets, according to the report.

"We've still got to make sure there's still a commitment [from the Rockets]," Artest said, according to the Bee. "That's the main thing, is to make sure there's still a commitment. When I speak to the powers-that-be of the Houston Rockets' organization, we're going to find out how much they really want me there. We'll find out. I'm still waiting to find out if this is just a trade or if this is like a long-term commitment-type thing. I haven't spoken to anybody yet. I'm still waiting."

That appeared to be a shift in Artest's outlook from earlier Wednesday, when he told ESPN.com of the trade, "I'll be a kid in a candy store ... I'm going to dance with the stars."

He also said he's waiting for a phone call from Yao, according to the Bee.

"I guess once Yao Ming approves [the deal], I'll be a Houston Rocket," Artest said, according to the report. "[Yao] probably should've called me first. But at the same time, it's Yao Ming's team."

"Whatever Yao Ming wants me to do, I'll be there. Whatever Tracy McGrady tells me to do, that's how it's going to go down. Ultimately, whatever [Rockets] coach Rick Adelman tells me to do is exactly what I'm going to do."

dumbest rant since Iverson's MVP crap a few years back.

I'm ghetto, me, representin' my culture by fighting spectators at a game. I'm sure Barack Obama will do similar should he be elected President.

No Ron, if you were representing your ghetto culture you wouldn't be a highly paid NBA baller, you might be hustling crack on the corner, a single mom working three jobs, dead, or just running about, high on crack, shitting in alleyways.

Athletes should really just keep their mouths shut.

Why is that related?

Artest considers his culture as ghetto simply because of the colour of his skin. He's too busy keeping it real, as the saying goes, to consider what his actions and words mean. According to what he says, "understanding where [someone's] coming from" means 'I will beat you with my fists'.

Where exactly are you coming from Ron; from the floor into the seats, fists flailing? How is that culture or even cultural behaviour? As far as I know, ghettos, while prone to their fair share of violence, aren't all about fighting random people who talk shit at a basketball game. Culture generally implies some level of civilization, of which Artest has shown little. You could substitute Barack Obama for Jesse Jackson or any other African-American personality who doesn't behave like a wild animal. I'd confidently say that's all of them but one, Ron Artest.

He is laughable, I might go see him when he comes to town next season just to belittle him.

But aren't you scared, his ghettoness and "culture" might kick in and he'll attack you?

Because they're both black? I agree with DocD. Ron Artest is a feckign moron.

Just because they are both black does not mean it is related where was Obama brought up, Indonesia and Hawaii from what I remember, im guessing Artest was brought up differently judging by the daft comments. Its a bit different a sportsman making silly comments and someone who is running for president doing the same.

Ron Artest is an idiot though that much is true.

Not the comments but the actions. The notion I had was that a lot of African Americans identify with ghetto culture, should they expect that behaviour with those they may also identify with due to skin colour?

Dont get me wrong I agreed with most of what you said which is why I did not reply to the other comment, I only wanted you to clear up what you was saying. However, Artest grew up in the projects of Queens New York and even though his attempts of using his exposure to "ghetto culture" as an excuse for jumping in the stands is pathetic in my opinion... it would be different from Obama's situation.

He's on the keepin' it real tip, that much is clear. He's not ghetto anymore but he's trying to show that he is. Obama didn't have the easiest time growing up but you don't see him belting hecklers. That was my point.

Ron Artest is one of the funniest guys in the NBA with some of the shit he comes out with.

"They better not put me in the All-Star Game. I won't shoot, but I'll dominate that easy game. I'll be playing hard defense. I'll be foulin'. I'll be flagrant fouling. Everyone will be like, 'What are you doing?'" -- Ron Artest

Iverson is ten times the player Artest is, anyone who can break MJ's ankle is great in my book
