Anyone else a fan?

Apparantley were awesome at Leeds as well.

Quite disappointed with the response to this thread

Why even compare this band to Battles? Other than having guitars and drums, I fail to see any similarity.

Mmmmmmm....Rolos.

They both get chucked into the "mathcore" genre sometimes. I agree they sound very different, and Battles sound far far better.

That's the problem with genres, they're generally meaningless

From wiki:
Mathcore is a rhythmically complex and dissonant style of metalcore. It has its roots in bands such as Converge, Botch, and the Dillinger Escape Plan. The term mathcore is suggested by analogy with math rock. Both math rock and mathcore make use of unusual time signatures. Math rock groups such as Slint, Don Caballero, Shellac, and Drive Like Jehu have some influence on mathcore, though mathcore is more closely related to metalcore. Prominent mathcore groups have been associated with grindcore.

All of which is very nice, and fairly meaningless. To be fair, Battles are (if anything) far more mathrock than they are mathcore, but when Atlas got some airplay people started throwing "mathcore" around as a label.

To the time signatures being different apparently. Even though I'm fairly sure that Battles track is regular 4/4, meaning the label is even more ridiculous.

To be fair, while Atlas is indeed a straight 4/4, in general Battles feck around with their time signatures a bit more than that. Though I agree that in all honesty all these little sub-genres of music are meaningless.

Example of less 4/4 time signature:

I am a time signature thicko really - I can tell what's in 4/4 and 3/4 but that's it. I'd never dream of trying to write something outside of those comfortable confines and I wouldn't have a clue how to even go about doing such a thing. I enjoy the symmetry of 4/4. Anything else kind of wrecks my simple head.

I hate it when people attach core to a word and suddenly have a new genre of music. On Youtube I've seen Nintendocore, Basscore and Screametalcore all quoted as real genres of music.

...Basically I'm more interested in things going into her mouth than anything that comes out of it.
