Roberto Carlos - We will win World Cup
Roberto Carlos believes Brazil are almost certain to win next year's World Cup, claiming the four-time winners are the favourites.
The player answered questions from the press and talked to fans before playing a charity match organized by AS Roma's Cafu on Wednesday at the Pacaembu Stadium in São Paulo.
Roberto Carlos was confident that 2002 will be the year for Brazil to pick up their fifth world title, despite the good results achieved by France and Argentina en route to the finals.
"We are 99.9 per cent to return from Japan with the world title in our luggage," stated the Real Madrid idol.
"We are the favourites - we can't deny it," he said. "I am an optimistic person really, that's the way I am.
"The World Cup qualifiers were a huge learning process for all of us," commented the player, addressing the weak campaign of the Brazilian national team during the South American qualifying matches, when the team lost important games against Argentina and Uruguay, among others.
The left-back also believes his side are more motivated to win the next World Cup than they were in 1998, when they were defending the 1994 title.
"Our obligation is to win in 2002 and bring back the happiness to the Brazilian people, that encourage us so much," he added.
