With only twelve months left on his contract, maybe SAF could be persuaded to sign Thuram / Mexes for the mean time and get Ayala in 2003. :D

I think it will be Ayala Thuram this year.

Agreed. Cancel Zanetti out of the equation then and expect Phizza to stay :D

Most definately, i have been saying this for months now. Can't wait, another megastore scarf classic moment. :D

right ra , those two now , mexes at the xmas break while MU still have larry to swing the deal.

The clearest indication yet that we're going to buy Roberto Ayala.....

Here's the complete article, which was published by Reuters today.

MANCHESTER, England (Reuters) - Argentina defender Roberto Ayala is considering a move to Manchester United from Spanish champions Valencia worth around 14 million pounds, according to U.K. newspaper the News of the World.

Ayala, who is expected to play a major role in Argentina's World Cup campaign, has agreed a four-year contract with the English club worth 40,000-pounds-a-week, the paper said.

"There's a more than even chance of me moving to Manchester. You'll have to wait and see," Ayala was quoted as saying. "The Valencia board already told me they wouldn't mind selling me and I agreed with them."

The 29-year-old helped Valencia reach the 2000 and 2001 Champions League finals before the club won the Spanish title last season for the first time in 31 years.

United manager Alex Ferguson is keen to add an experienced central defender to his squad after his team failed to win the premier league title for the first time in four seasons.

hope its true and the story wont get "slammed" by the player 2moro.

Ayala - Thuram would be simply awesome!

I Agree that the partnership would be excellent, i only see a couple minors problems.

Neither defender is the tallest of players. Even Thuram is barley the same height as Brown, this would leave us even more vunrable in the air. (Both the the Arse and Pool have very tall squads, i think this is the way things are going- its all about physical attributes in football these days, i.e strength, Speed, height, Power more so now than years gone by.)

Also neither has experience of the PL so who would we get to warm the bench whilst larry is guiding one of them through. A settled back four will be imperative.

I think we are more likely to go for one world class CB this season and bargain defender. Then depending on how we are doing, i reckon the season after we will probably go for another world class CB then. Thus allowing us to be more settled.

He's known for being one of the best in the air. Thuram's not fecking bad either! Find it unlikely we'd be able to afford them both though, unless we sold someone.

What about Ayala and Purse ?

Purse would be relatively cheap compared to Thuram. Could be the next Steve Bruce.

Why not ? The price for the two together would be unlikely to exceed 30m.

Experienced player like Thuram and Ayala don't need to be guided through. They have both been playing at the top level for years.

Thuram and Ayala would absolutely shite all over any attackers...cant wait.

Cant wait...if just to see Ayala slap Mickey or Donkey around a bit

Parma or United tough choice

;)

I'm sure that would be a really difficult decision for him, what with Parma being such a good team and massive club.

Ayala named Champions League defender for 2000/2001 season
Old news, but impressive nonetheless

I think Ayala will be a Utd player very soon. He has said earlier that he would be interested in a move to Utd. and this is the clearest indication yet. I dont see why he would turn down Utd for any other club.

Inevitable agent talk; drive the price up. But as was said, Parma or United, obviously Ayala would be a starter at OT, -Parma are going nowhere???

Not sure we would buy Thurham and Ayala, but we have to go through the motions in case one of the two will fall through for some reason.

Whatever team we start with next season, it has to be one that can win the CL at OT, no half measures.

I would be very surprised if AYALA picked PARMA over UNITED ...

- he wants to play for united "see his comments that started this topic"
- He has played in ITALY and didn't have a good time
- PARMA would be a step down for him ... from CL at VALENCIA/UNITED and chasing titles or fighting relegation at PARMA
- PARMA are shit ... they are a selling club now although if they had brains they could have had a thunderous team ... BUFFON, THURAM, CRESPO, VERON along with CANNAVARO who WILL leave after the WC.

its a no contest ... if VALENCIA are willing to sell he WILL pick us, parma bidding is the equivalent of EVERTON bidding a below average HAS-BEEN club.
However those ITALIAN bastards might either out bid us to AYALA as VALENCIA may take advantage like THURAM last summer or they might just raise the price which would be fecking anoying.

Piss off PARMA your out of your league!

If Parma do get £37m for Cannavaro (which I still think is unrealistic to say the least), they may just offer Ayala a nice package to sign for them and still have a hell of a lot left over to settle some debts or whatever.

This is true, although AYALA will surely identify that PARMA are by no means on a par with either VALENCIA or UNITED and will not want to play average football at a average team.

The only problem is VALENCIA and PARMA may price us out of the deal coz VALENCIA will want as much £££ as possible and PARMA will have it and being a stupid ITALIAN club will blow the lot.
Aslong as we can get access to AYALA ie get a offer accepted and progress to personal terms then we SHOULD be laughing.

I think we'll get at least one of Ayala and Thuram this summer. Who we buy will depend on Larry's situation next year. I hope we get both of them and use Larry as cover for injuries, suspensions etc.

yep, i agree i want Blanc to stay but not as a twice a week starter AYALA and THURAMwould be perfect or one of them and another CB - Hofland ? has his poor season killed his chances with us??

I'd only expect one of Thurham or Ayala. Hofland had an average season, and PSV value him at 15mil. or so, no thanks.

I agree that Hofland wont come to OT. He's Holland's answer to Wes imo.
