That said, maybe he, SAF, has already got someone else lined up.

I have already suggested Robbie Keane several weeks earlier. 8m for a 21 years old striker who played well in the WC is a big bargain, especially when considering how much Forlan (older than Robbie but has far less experience) cost us.

This seems weird to me. Although I can understand why United (Fergie) couldn't go for Keane (how could Keane play for him bearing in mind what Fergie said about him?), I can't understand why he would move to Sunderland.

When Fergie made those comments RK was stuck at Inter not getting any football at all (no reserves in Italy). All Fergie ever said about Robbie Keane was that if he signed him he'd end up sitting on the bench and only playing reserve team football. And that that wouldn't be fair on a young player. He never slagged the lad off and is on record as saying he's been impressed by him.

Robbie had a great WC and he is a great little striker but SAF's view of the player is still the same IMO. He's not getting first team football at Leeds so why would RK go to United to sit on the bench again? He'd struggle to get into the team ahead of RVN and Ole (and Forlan) so it really wouldn't make much sense for the player. 8 mill is a bargain though. Would be a great signing for Sunderland or even Boro who missed out on Forlan.

I'd like to see Robbie go to a club like Sunderland. Would be good for his development. He's been sitting on the bench long enough.

He needs to get regular first team football at a Premiership to build on his great world cup.

My point was that he's better than Sunderland.

Thats debatable. On last season's form Sunderland are really only a 1st division side and Robbie is definitely a premiership striker. So from that point of view then yeah Robbie is too good for Sunderland. Wherever he goes though he has to be guaranteed first team football IMO and you'd have to say Sunderland would fit the bill in that regard. If right was right Dave O'L should be building his attack around RK and Fowler not that Viduka character.

I'd agree with that. I still couldn't see Keane himself accepting a move to Sunderland, first team football or not.

Keane has said he wants to stay at Leeds...first team football or not.

DOL has said he wants to utilise all his strikers.

Leesd will not sell for 5 million less than they paid..especially when they have money problems.

Surely IF Robbie Keane is moving, he can only move UP in the football world after his World Cup displays.
There are plenty of better teams than Sunderland in need of a quality striker. he should not be going to a side threatened with relegation. Even Tottenham would be a better option for him - and god knows they need a decent young striker.
As for Man United, like many others are saying, why would he go there after sitting on the bench for so long at other clubs?
