Dead at 60....

One of the best singer songwriters of all time...

Massively sad day...

Can't say I've heard of him on this side of the pond. Seems to have been prolific, though and I'll trust your judgement of his abilities. I'll check this out later.

Which leads me to think we should do a thread of great artists who are relatively unknown outside their own countries (sort of).

If you're seriously interested check out an album called Solid Air... voted in the top 100 albums of all time

Yeah absolutely a superb album, it is seriously very good, this is really really bad news about his death :(

That and Bless The Weather are certainly worth adding to any collection.

A one disc compilation that covers the variety of his styles is 'Sweet Little Mysteries'.

I've been lucky enough to catch him live a few times in Cambridge. John always gave value for money.

A sad loss.

RIP john.

having heard "may you never" the week before, on my 14th birthday I went out and bought The Tumbler and for the last 24 years he has been a constant "companion" if you will....hes the one artist Ive seen live the most I reckon at least ten times and the thing with him was he has put on some of the greatest gigs ive ever had the privilege of attending but also some of the worst....the disapppointment of expecting a good nights john martyn music only to get a extremely pissed slurring poorly playing john was terrible.

Since Heard the news earlier today Ive had him on constant rotation...london conversation, the tumbler, solid air, bless the weather, sundays child, live at leeds, road to ruin, stormbringer, one world...been dipping in and out of them playing single tracks or complete albums.

Ill have another toke before i go to bed and play may you never one more time...

Cheers John.

An absolute genius and legend. In my top five favourite artists of all time. I am so sad that he has passed.

'Bless the Weather' is my pick of his albums. It's one of the most calming, beautiful pieces of music that can drift into your ears.

If anyone can find a clip of Over the Hill it'd be great
