Norway's great hope for the London Olympics, swimmer Alexander Dale Oen, dropped dead in the showers this morning. He was 26. Absolutely fecking shocking stuff. Reigning 100m breaststroke world champ and a brilliant fella.

Absolute tragedy. A great man, and a great athlete. Remember so well when he won the Gold medal in Shanghai the day after the terror attacks in Oslo, he won for the entire nation.

Rest in peace, Alexander Dale Oen.

Shocking stuff. No determined cause of death as of yet.

This has happened a lot lately with athletes. Random anomaly or something more "real" related to training at the top level?

I've been thinking about this lately, because it seems to be happening more often with top athletes these days. I don't know anything about this stuff, but maybe it has to do with the level of professional sports these days being so high, that professional athletes have to push their bodies to the limits, and in some cases maybe too much? I don't know, it's just my thoughts, and it's a bit scary if true.

Wouldn't it be possible to perform better monitoring and testing of athletes, especially related to heart failure?

RIP Dale Oen.

Our best sportsman and from what I could understand a very likeable, humble and smart guy.

Tragic.

I was glued to the TV 22nd of July and the following days, and I remember very well Dale Oen's moving actions and words during the World Championship. Seems like he was a great athlete and a great person. This is tragic.
