Looking good

Today's game filled me with confidence about him. The best part was the way he seems determined to BOSS the defence. We all knew he was a good player, but I wasn't sure about his leadership credentials.

Yet to see the man in a Utd shirt.

Looking good for this coming season.

From the reports i have read in this forum,it seems that Veron and Forlan are playing quite well.

Veron played well - it was the kind of game and opposition that suites him well, when they let you have time on the ball.

Forlan was ok, great link up play, didn't look like scoring though.

I thought him and O'shea looked like they could develop into something special: Silvestre and Brown also played well

That goal - the touch was immaculate.

Does anyone know if he plays golf?

I reckon O'Shea has to bide his time and be patient, because it will be Blanc who will partner Rio this season. I don't necessarily agree with it, but if we today's back four is young and unexperienced (average age of 22.5 years). But it all bodes well for the future!

Rio played well, as so did O'Shea. Forlan's link-up play was good, but his finishing leaves a lot to be desired, really. I was shocked when he couldn't score after latching on to the excellent through-ball by Ole.

Why ? If he's the best to partner Rio then so be it. That back four is our best combo without doubt imo but I expect you're right and SAF will revert to Blanc and Phil - unfortunately.

Blanc yes, because his experience is still very important. O'Shea may be the long term solution, but it doesn't mean he's ready to face the likes of Barcelona quite yet, with all due respect a friendly with Parma. A lot of people (including myself) refused to take the Ajax game as an indication to anything, so why the Parma one?

As for Brown - he got the nod over Phil and Irwin when we played at Leverkusen last season and done well, so he could well be 'it'.

Wes is a good player but he always seems uncomfortable to me, especially on the wing where the space is more limited. He is a very limited passer of the ball and things like that really show on the wing.

I don't really trust him and I get the feeling it's the same with the players playing around him. It's no coincidence that Fab's biggest blunders happened when Wes was present.

I'm forced to break some bad news here Roy: Err, It's either Brown or Phil Neville on the right, as we haven't signed Cafu this summer.

As for Fab's blunders, they were his not Brown. If he can't kick a ball or catch it I really don't see how Wes can be a part of it, although it's a point well taken.

I'm just way behind in this giving up on Wes stuff. The lad has loads of talent and maybe Rio can actually be the one to help him realise it.

Good post - who knows how high he will raise his game if he gets an injury free season. He played very well yesterday, and delivered a brilliant cross for the first goal.

Brown is smooth technically, but he does need some time to rebuild his confidence, the defence took a grilling last season.

Rio is a very confident defender, which is exactly what we need at this point, Blanc brings the composure, hopefully Fab can clear his head and we will start to grind out the clean sheets.

Its some way away, but if Brown or O'Shea are not 'ready' by next season when blanc retires, then we will have to bring in another CB.

Has everyone forgotten that we had the best defensive record in the Prem season before last, with

Irwin - G.Neville - Brown - Silvestre

being the most used back four?

Just trying to be a glory hunter ;)

Think is, I oughta be an idiot to have started supporter United after Denis left, which means when the club has no trophies.

So I'm a no-glory hunter :D <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

That's true but just because we don't have other options it doesn't mean we need to look at the situation with rose-tinted glasses.

Even in the Parma game, where Wes played quite well, you could see his passing wasn't in the level you'd expect of a modern full-back. At full-back he has only one routine and that's pass the ball to Becks. It doesn't matter if 3 players are surrounding Becks, he'll still pass the ball on to him and sadly even Becks can't always keep the ball.

It's exactly small and seemingly meaningless pieces of play like these that got us into those ridiculous situations last season.

jedi master thought o'shea was our best defender out there against parma.......admittedly majority of the parma players were terribly not match fit.......but still, wes was ok, rio was immaculate, silvestre was, well silvestre; dodgy at times, adequate defensively the other times....but o'shea was brilliant....think he should succeed blanc quite nicely....he's very calm assured defender, much in the blanc mould no....

Have to finish my Dream Team at work, want to pick O`Shea but will he play?(Rhymes doesn`t?)
