In the FourFourTwo issue this past Nov. 2001
there is an article having to do with Rio's style of play. From what I could tell from the article is that he's a badass with a good feel for the ball. This which not many defender posess. it's iether badass stopper that can tackle and clear...or an ok defender with a tendency to go forward with the ball and a better passer.
If any of you get a chance to read this issue...I highly suggest it for they have opinions of many great defenders of Englands past such as Jack Charlton, Bobby Moore, Mark Wright, and referrences to Cullis & Franklin.
Good stuff...to hear what the old legends think.
ie.J. Charlton had been quite cautious as to give Rio his stamp of approval due to his belief in the the old style of defenders...'they should defend, it scares me when a manager says he's got a good feel for the ball.'
