"I've heard all the speculation about me possibly leaving and as far as I'm concerned it's up to Leeds. If they want to keep me I will be staying, if they decide to sell me that's different. I'm planning to go on my holidays and just intend to relax."

Leeds are apparently 60 million in the red and in one move that could halve.
Latest reports suggest that Leeds are selling Bowyer to the Arse for 8 million and Keane to someone for a similar price in a bid to keep RIO. The max they could get for those two would be 20 million....so maybe they have to sell.
Remember in England the royalty (wink...King Carlos for Real Madrid) does not save clubs from financial ruin and Banks come knocking on the door....so the books have to balance.

Leeds have a debt of 60 million. This is secured in a 25 year bond.

They are voluntarily calling in their 14 million transfer defecit from last season to appease the PLC and banks.

They have too many players and a huge wage bill as they had to overcompensate for the possible jail birds.

Leeds do not have to sell Rio to balance the books.

The media just like to say they do.

And if I and other Leeds fanshave to repeat this again we will all go mad. The media are just misquoting and making up figures to sell newspapers (as usual).

Your chairman has said that you need to sell to balance the books, DOL has also said that you need to buy, now what the feck is going on. If you ask me your club has a problem, but what is it, do you have no money, too much money, why are you selling Bowyer and Keane, why is DOL quoted as saying that if the right offer comes in for Rio he could go. So go mad the fecking lot of you scum supporters, if Rio stays I don't give a toss, just means we will buy someone else, easy when youv'e got money.

Rio Ferdinand said this, Who cares? It's not up to him.

He'd turn down a move to OT wouldn't he? Personally I'd prefer Ayala. It's very possible Wes Brown could(?) do Ferdinand's job,

If Brown could do Rio's job we wouldn't have been such a disaster at the back last season.

So you blame it all on Brown?

Or is it because you think Rio can come in and automatically turn things on their head?

No, last year was down to poor organisation, poor defending from the midfielders in particular, many mistakes all over the pitch and yes, our defence was poor. But defensively, our entire team was dreadful.

Brown is not the same as Rio, he can do Stam's job though. With Rio as a sweeper and Brown as the blocker/man marker we'd have a great young combination. I think in some ways Brown is just as good as Rio if not better, we'll see next year. Brown is gonna shine as long as he stays injury free.

Its been said that Wes will benefit from training/playing with Rio. Anything that helps Wes with his confidence will be good for us, especially with Larry staying only one more year.

Redfan...if you read my post why are you asking me why Leeds need to sell. I will reapeat my post again:

They need to sell as they have a transfer defeicit of 14 million. They also didn't make the Cl so the Uefa Cup will not prop the wage bill like the CL would.

Additionally they have too many players as two might have been going to jail. They didn't so we have too many players now. We have a squad of 26 not counting the 5 youth players knocking on the first team door. The wage bill is too high with the too many players so Leeds need to sell.

Also, Leeds have 5 strikers with Bridges coming back from two years of injury.

It makes sense when you actually read what is written.

Leeds were not even figuring selling Rio in their plans until Man Utd started getting interested and as soon as they did the media believed they would sell because of the financial problems. Well I was just pointing out that the financial problems are not so dire that they NEED to sell Rio. Whether they do or not is another story.

You are forgetting that Bowyer is on the trasfer list. Kewell hits the last year of his contract at Christams. It is widely acknowledged he won't resign so that is two already that may be gone. With 5 strikers one or more may go. Fringe players HAVE to be sold just to reduce the wage bill.

Seeing as they are reducing numbers it doesn't seem likely Leeds will buy to increase the numbers again does it?

As for Wes Brown and Rio Ferdinand being a good combination...DOL has wanted to play Rio and Woodgate togther from the start. Woodgate couldn't handle the trial and then magically got his jaw broken at the end of last season but he has resigned his contract. The center pairing will be Rio and Woodgate if Rio stays. Seeing as how Sven has said Woodgate will be drefted back into the england squad for Euro 2004 qualifying Leeds and Sven obviously hope this would be a good partnership as well.

The details may be innacurate but surely it is true that Leeds need to bring net amount of at least 14 million in from transfers and reduce the wages bill.

The fact that DOL isn't kicking and screaming about potentially losing Rio suggests that he is de facto for sale. Selling other players might bring in some dosh but unless you are going to just sell without bringing in anyone new then this isn't really going to be enough. I don't think that it is a done deal but it does look increasingly likely.
