What's the point of any lifetime achievement award? Just an appreciation for great players of the league.

Ferdinand already has the admiration of the football punditry world for being a quality defender. Anyone that appreciates the game and defending appreciates how good he was.

What's the point of Player of the Season/Month, Manager of the Season/Month or any awards really? I mean everyone already appreciates how good the recipients are?
Its just about honouring a player for what they meant for the game. Its about what certain people achieved in the Premier League, how they helped the game develop and what they won. It is, despite what some here seem to think, not just about winning a lot of titles and you are inducted into the Hall of Fame.
If you dont like it or think its shite you dont have to follow it, read about it or vote for it. Im sure Rio appreciates being inducted into the Hall of Fame. The official Manchester United website also has a legend tab. The Manchester United legends already have the admiration of Manchester United fans for what they have done for the club. Might just delete that too then...
And yes, its blatantly stolen/copied from American sports but i still think its fun and something for fans to discuss. Only downside is that the Premier League is such a young league and that all the legends from the past arent part of it.

Best CB I've seen at United and we've had our fair share of quality centrebacks ie Bruce, Pallister, Vidic, Jaap, Prunier etc.
Current awards are a bit more relevant.
But this hall of fame stuff is pointless.

No. The Premier League Hall of Fame exists online, with dedicated content on premierleague.com. Inductees receive a medallion engraved with their name and the year of their induction as well as being recognised at a formal induction ceremony attended by their peers, friends and Hall of Fame members.
