First of all, cogratulations for the signing: very good player!
But the huge price you payed is another brick for the wall to be built around The Minister of Defense!
If Rio is worth 47 million euros, then how much is Nesta worth? Let's say 60, at least! I doubt Inter will get him by offering 25 million euros plus Emre! Face it, Piersi, you won´t get rid of Nesta for a decent price in the current market and he´d have been an Inter player by now had Moratti offered C. Zanetti.

Materazzi/Cordoba with Gamarra and Sorondo backing them up ain´t bad either. Nesta would have been a luxury, the left side is their problem.

No, it's because you don't have a clue about CBs around the world, if you really think so! EVERYBODY in football world consider Nesta the best defender BY FAR! Some consider him even the best player "pound for pound" (regardless of role played, i mean). An example? Check out what happened to the famous italian defense during WC, without Sandro!
You named the only game (the 1-5 derby) in his whole career in which he truly underperformed.
And these are FACTS, not opinions.

Nesta is an excellent defender, but to say that he's universally regarded as the best defender in the world is a stretch imo. There's alot of hype that goes with these labels, and Nesta, while being a fantastic player...is not considered the best by Everybody in the football world.

When we speak of the whole, big football world, even 90% is just like EVERYBODY. It's just to stress a worldwide opinion.
Can you name me other CBs that REALLY match Nesta for sheer talent, youth (therefore, chances to improve his game), trophies won, international experience, strenght of the league he plays in, etc.?

I'd be willing to bet that many Fins think Hyypia may be the best. Go to Holland and you'll get the same for Stam. Go to Italy and you'll get alot of shouts for Nesta and Cannavaro. Go to England and you'll hear about Rio being the best. It's all about who you ask. There's no definitive best defender in the world right now imo...just a group of fantastic defenders who are all comparably good in their on way.

1) Hyppia? He won less, much less, he is older, slower and less elegant. Meaner, anyway.
But Premiership is hardly more difficult than Serie A, on a 18 teams comparison...

2) Rio? Even worse: what did he win, so far?

3) Stam? Age is against him. Slower and less elegant. Stronger, anyway.

4) Cannavaro? Nothing won. Faster, anyway.

See? Easier than you thought, Raoul.

Frankly Lazio should be suspended from all competitive football if they don't come up with our cash. Not because it's us, but because you shouldn't be allowed to get away with it. The same should have applied to Benfica when they didn't stump up for Poborsky and later Van Hooijdonk. No better than thieves.
 
Agreed. If someone tried to buy a car and then didn't make the payments, the car would be impounded and the person's credit would be ruined. it should be no different for Lazio. Why should we pay for their financial mismanagement over the years.
