Riise: About Man United and my future
I cannot stop newspapers from writing things, but I can use my web page to clarify certain matters which have not been accurately reported.
Firstly I have been quoted as saying Manchester United are "unstable" at the back and that they have no chance of winning the championship. This is not true.
I did say that I felt United had been unstable this year, but I never mentioned their defence. By unstable I meant inconsistent, because by their high standards they normally have the league wrapped up by now.
As for saying they can't win the championship, do people think I am stupid? I have a lot of respect for United. After all, they are only one point behind us and I would be a fool to write them off. Anyway, if I was to dismiss United's chances I would also be dismissing our own – and I'm certainly not doing that.
The point I was trying to make is that Arsenal are in the best position. Just look at the table. If they win all their five games they will be champions. All I was trying to say is that it will be hard for United, as it will be for us, because if they are to win the title they will need two teams to slip up.
All we can do at Liverpool is to do our own job and make sure we win our remaining four games, beginning with the one against Derby tomorrow. If we can do that, we can only hope it's enough to win the title.
I have again been the subject of press speculation this week. Once again, I want to use my web page to tell you the facts. And they are these: I signed a long contract with Liverpool and I am happy here.
I want to win trophies with this club and I have no plans to leave. I met Gerard Houllier yesterday and I assured him of this.
My agent has also contacted the boss to tell him the same thing and to insist that he was misquoted in the newspapers.
Everyone can see from my performances how much I love Liverpool. I always give 100 per cent because I want to do well and because I want the team to do well. I hope this clears everything up once and for all.
