Riiiiiio

From SqBall!:
rio was on sky sports update:
SKY: "rio, do u feel this is about you - in terms of a possible transfer" or words to that effect!!!

the reply
"....uneasy silence, "phone goes dead.

Nice, that's one player in the bag. I guess we can stop discussing about Rio now and start looking for other new players to come ;)

Wow this actually happened? I thought you was joking...

Weird. He's on his way it seems. But £35m for Rio and £25m for Nesta...er...

Shaolin we aren't going to get Nesta and certainly not for 25 mil... Cragnotti has stated weeks ago that the bidding for Nesta starts at 35 mil pounds and still half the Italian clubs are interested
Be happy with Rio ;)

OK, just that I read few mins ago that Inter are going for him for £25m asking price after failing with a £20m bid.

These stupid Italians, selling their best defenders to the rivals tut tut tut <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" />

Where do these valuations come from, football clubs are going to self destruct.

How can Rio sell to Leeds for 18 mill which every one said was way too expensive.

Then 12 months later figures of 35 mill being mentioned. What happened in this year, you telling me that playing with Ian Hart and Danny Mills etc has improved his game that much. I don't remember Kiddo being that great a coach.

Fifa or some one need to bring some rules if only to protect stupid club owners from themselves!

Well at least its stopped us worrying about Keano retiring on July 5th.

Teamtalk:
Wes Brown has backed United's bid to sign Rio Ferdinand - a player he describes as "the best central defender in the world".
Brown watched on as Ferdinand enhanced his growing reputation with an outstanding World Cup campaign for England, and the Old Trafford defender says he would relish linking up with the Leeds captain if he makes the move across the Pennines.
United have confirmed their interest in the former West Ham man, but any deal is still dependant on Leeds being willing to sell their prize asset to their fiercest rivals.
Brown, though, is in no doubt that Ferdinand would strengthen United's rearguard if a proposed £30million move is agreed between both clubs.
"Without doubt Rio was the best defender in the World Cup," Brown said. "He's had unfair criticism in the past about his game at times. But I always knew he was quality and Leeds don't pay £18million for a player if he's not top drawer.
"Critics were shocked by that fee and said Rio hadn't done it on the world stage. Well now he has. He has proved that he can do it on the best stage. I believe he is the best central defender in the world.
"I've been aware of the speculation linking him with Manchester United and I think he'd be a great buy. It would be a huge boost to our squad and make us so much stronger.
"He's a consistent player, he's solid, he's a talker and has shown he can command a team after being made captain at Leeds. I'd love to play alongside him at Old Trafford - I'm sure I could and it would be great."
Brown, who sat out all of England's five World Cup games, admits this season could turn out to be his biggest yet at Old Trafford.
With Ronny Johnsen and Denis Irwin released, and Laurent Blanc still to decide on his future, Brown knows he has the ideal chance to establish himself as a permanent fixture in Sir Alex Ferguson's first team.
"Every season is a big one but after missing four months of last term with injury this campaign is important for me," Brown told the Manchester Evening News. "It's a big thing for me to get through the season without any injuries."

If Rio turns Brown to the player he could be then it would make me happy.Right now Brown doesnt have the confidence and concentration but maybe Rio will learn him.

Juve and other italian clubs will start bidding for him as well.
We can only hope Rio really wants to come to United, because it's easier for Leeds to sell him abroad, than to a rival club.

Someone on SqBall said Rio has stated he would only go to United. I think this deal is already done and dusted mate, barring the medical.

I think Rio will want to stay in England because he wants to play for England. Eriksen clearly likes young Wes and this will be a perfect opportunity to forge a partnership for England.

Besides, his allegiance was to O'Leary for buying him and now O'Leary gone.....
:)

Gewt us both him and Nesta and watch the World tremble.

Remebre. Lazio owe 11m pounds.
Nesta = 25m-11=14m :D

Following the departure of David O'Leary, reports are coming in that the Rio to Man Utd deal is definitely on...

According to the reports we're getting, the fee has been set at £27 million up front, with a further £5 million based on appearances and other add-ons payable later.

The fee is more than the original £30 million reported, but most Leeds fans expected Ferdinand to move for a bit more than that after his excellent World Cup form for England.

However with a £14 million profit which should leave money for the new manager to spend - and pay off the remainder of O'Leary's lengthy (not to mention lucrative) contract - as well as paying off the reportedly high debts incurred by the club in recent times.

You're right, I might want to do that ;)

Italian clubs dont have any money left. And i think Rio prefer staying in England playing for us as he know some guys that plays here.

I hope that fee is wrong. If Leeds are to sell Ferdinand, it needs to be for way more than £32 million. Leeds need to make £15m in transfer dealings over the closed season and with Bowyer moving for approx £10m, a couple of others would cover the costs. (Robbie Keane for £12m etc etc.)

Leeds could demand much more from the likes of Manchester United. Let's face it, if they want him enough, they'll pay what is asked.

32m is plenty for Rio. If the fee ends up being that much then it would be the 5th biggest transfer fee ever. (Zidane, Figo, Crespo, Buffon, Vieri/Rio)

Anything over £30 million is too much imo, not to mention ludicrous! I think you'll find it's more a case of you guys need the money, rather than we've got it so we might as well spend it!

Rio isn't our only transfer target I'm sure.....

Why not buy Both Nesta and Rio.25million of our money for Nesta plus the 11million Lazio us total 36million for Nesta and then 25millionn for rio and sell Veron and buy Hassan Saas and Rustu.
