Announced his retirement from Tests today. His last match will be at Perth against the Saffers.

Modern great...up there with Sachin, Dravid and Kallis as the best in the last 20 odd years. Won't miss him a lot though, too many grudges.

Absolute legend. Loved the way he's always given test cricket priority over anything else. I was hoping he could've stuck around for one last Ashes.

He had a great career and has been one of the main players for Australia for so long.

Though with the current media here talking about him being dropped due to poor form. I can't help but think it was simply a case of him jumping before he was pushed out.

Deserves to go out on his own terms either way. Hopefully he can get a century in his final game.

Retiring with an average of 52 and 41 centuries, it really should have been an average of 55-56 and 50 centuries. The last 3 years have been diabolical for him.

Um....I don't get that first sentence. Yes he should have retired with a 55 average or so, but only because he should of bowed out 2 years ago, so don't know how you think he could of got 50 centuries really. In terms of cricket, Kallis and Sachin having years as well as they have had over 35 is extremely odd, and well even rarer. Once you hit mid 30's, playing to a mid 40 average is considered exceptional really, so you'll obviously not keep your 50+ average if you have it.

Definitely feel he could get a century though, I'm pretty sure he's had centuries on other landmark moments on his career, great players can do that, and what a way to finish either way.

Superb player, although I feel it is the right time for him to retire. Was always susceptible to being caught behind or getting LBW early in his innings but once he got going he was one of the best batsman to watch. Superb competitor as well.

Amazing player, one of the best batsmen to play. Good luck to him after retirement.

Great to watch when in form. Especially those delightful pull shots.

Hated the cnut though.

Gutted he wont be over in England for the Ashes next summer.

Great competitor, proper sportsman.

Great way to call it a day as well.

Hopefully Tendulkar takes note - selectors will never have the guts to drop him.

Should have announced it at the start of the series.
Got the shackles off and had a dig.

Probably would have scored runs as well.

If the traffic around the ground is anything to go by. Seems quite a few people are coming to watch his last test.

Because I feel like confessing, I detested Ricky Ponting more than Suárez and Keown combined. It's incredibly silly and all based on envy and projection.

He was absolutely outstanding.

Watched a bit of criket in hte late 90s and early 00's and haven't really paid attention since then. Ponting wasn't too highly rated then... instead the likes of Gilchrist and Hayden were much better I thought. But I know shit all about cricket :D

A true great.

Will miss him, as a batsman and as a cricket personality.

Think he stayed on as captain 2 years too many.

Hope he bows out with a century.
