Ricky Gervais hosting the Golden Globes....

Its a new animation series made from the podcasts he made with Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington.

It's out in March for the UK on Channel 4 I think, i wouldn't rather find other means though :nono:

Holy shit lol its Cameron Diaz face everytime saying,"did he just say that kinda look"...Paul McCartney didnt look one bit impressesed n Mel Gibson was embarrassed. Notice how Gervais runs off when he comes on

QUALITY!

I expected better to be honest. I like Gervais and know he can be funnier than that.

He had some funny lines, the stuff about buying the globes and the Mel Gibson line were very good, but what's the penis stuff, Angelina Jolie and the mock self promotion there for? It's all been done before. And done much better.

not at something as prestigous as the golden globes though,i thought it took balls to do it that way and he stuck to what he does best

Not much of a host though. In that according to that youtube clip, he was only on stage for 9 minutes. I always thought hosts were on longer. I thought he was quite funny though.

Thats more down to the organisers though isnt it, but there definatly wasnt enough of him.

Bah, I'd like to know how he went down with the average American watching at home, not the stuck up holier-than-thou critics. They probably couldn't bear to watch their idols being eviscerated.

The ironic, self-aggrandising stuff is becoming very, very jaded, IMO. And that's coming from someone who thinks he's brilliant.

When you piece the funny bits together he was OK but on the night he was a bit shit TBH.

He's brilliant

Of course the Americans wont 'get it' or like it. Its still fecking brilliant though. Cudos for him to even have the balls to do that on such a large scale.

Durrrr, I didn't get any of this guy's jokes. Who is Dicky Gervase? I think he should show more respect to Mel Gibson, a real American hero, who's just telling it like it is about the Jews.

I thought it was hilarious, I got all the time in world for him. He was also bit drunk in end I think. He is always brilliant in those awards shows, like when he got all those awards for the office he used to make fun of his wheelchair bound producer.

Talking as myself now, yes, I enjoyed Ricky Gervais very much, and most intelligent Americans felt the same way. He didn't get much air time, but as he said, "Quality, not quantity."

Is he 'avin' a larf? Yes.

Some of his jokes were good, though I agree that the whole promoting your own shows joke is wearing very thin.

The ignorance in this statement is unbelievable.

Well, from the reports I've read, his jokes didnt really go down to well. The American and British sense of homour is very different. Americans arent so good at taking the piss out of themselves, thats not a bad thing, its just the way it is.

It's true though.

I always hear people say how British comedy is so much more sophisticated and clever than American comedy, just because they've heard it from someone else, despite the fact that the majority of sitcoms in the UK are utter shite.

Gervais is popular in the US, so they obviously don't 'get' his comedy (whatever the feck that means).

I'm not saying British comedy is better thought. Infact I havent even implied it. There just very different. And thats why I wouldnt be surprised if Gervais didnt go down to well last night. (which seems to be the case)

And I agree, most UK sitcoms are complete shit. However, I am speaking from my own experience of a) having American friends and b) having family that live in America.

Also, if British and American comedy were so different, then why would American comedy shows (Friends, Cheers, Frasier, The American Office, Family Guy, South Park, The Simpsons, Futurama, King of the Hill, Two and Half Men, 30 Rock, Modern Family - and that's just tonight's TV listings!) do so well over here?

Here comes the American Comedy vs British Comedy debate, personally I think if it makes me laugh who gives a shit where its made?

Let's be honest, if you look around at some the faces whilst he is taking the piss it contains a few nonplussed looks but I think thats more down to them being up their own arse than not getting the comedy.

What makes you think that?

Also, it's not as if he's just starting out there you know. He's been quite big over there for a few years, I'm quite sure they're familiar with his brand of comedy (which has been getting a little stale for while now, as Brophs pointed out.)
