One of the interesting things in yesterday's game that has not been highlighted was the fact that Richardson was Utd's first sub and that while he came on just after the 2nd goal he was already stripped off and waiting when we were only 1-0 up and looking dodgy.

Remember Giggs was on the bench as an obvious alternative and I think this shows that Fergie is inclined to give the kid an opportunity to show if he is 1st team calibre or not - and with 2 Worthless games coming up and an FA cup tie against Pompey he could get an extended opportunity to show his worth. I also think he did well in his 20 minuteds yesterday with a couple of runs of real purpose. I think Fergie sees the neeed to have more options to bring on attwackers late in the game - and knows the value of a good young player breaking in to the team.

Alex must surely want Richardson to succeed, he knows he's one of the best youth talents we have, but obviously feels he's not ready for first team starts yet. We're all hoping he has a growth spurt sooner rather than later, but if he can adjust psychologically to the demands of first team football, then that'll be good progress for this year. I'd just like to see him come on as sub more often, in every bad match Giggs plays in fact.

how old is the kid? I happened to catch the Leeds match on the tele yesterday. Watching the goal by their 16 year old got me to wonder how old Richardson was.

Richardons' Birthday is 21/10/84 so he's just had his 18th birthday, and plays in the U19's.

Weird thing is that Mads Timm was born on 31/10/84, yet has mostly played in the U17's. Though both have played in the reserves, and the first team in EPL and CL.

Was born Oct. 21 1984 - makes him just 18 and makes me feel old.

Like I said - an extended run! but seriously I think it would help Giggs to have some real competition for his place - just like the signs are that the emergence of Ole is forcing Becks to raise his standards - and I am sure Fergie is smart enough to realise this.

I´m slowly getting to the point where I´m cheering on players who are younger than me .... depressing.

Yeah well wait till the only player in the team older than you is Larry Blanc. That's depressing.

I think Richardson could be a good player for us but he doesn't seem to have an great turn of speed. If he is going to be a winger for us then it would be nice to have one winger with a turn of speed.

I hate the fact that if i were a pro player id be one of the older lads in the side, :(
I allways think they all seem so much older than me, im the same age as Becks, Scholes and the boys, a lot of good players born back then ;)

Well he did get a run today and showed a few good touches - without really doing anything special. Clearly suffered one Pompey got a goal back and Utd. stopped competing hard as a team - and it made sense to replace him with Scholes. Still I don't think he hurt his reputation - just that this was a good chance to really put in a performance and he didn't really take it.

He has showed some quality and has certainy done no harm to his reputation. He was replaced by Scholes simply for tactical reason. Definitely not bad for a 18-years-old if you compared it to Stewart or Chadwick who are already 22.

and he still looks a bit too frail for my liking. Easily brushed off the ball sometimes. Maybe he should work out more in the gym.

I've heard that Rooney's dad was a boxer and he also had this kind of training before. May be Richardson can also have a try. :p
