Ten Hag is rightly getting a lot of credit for playing the best football since Fergie but let’s not forget the common link. Someone who deeply cares about weather protection and is fluent in both English and Dutch.

It’s time Mcclaren gets the redemption arc he deserves. All hail the return of the Mcclaren.

Order of importance

1. Mcclaren
2. Ten Hag
3. Casemiro
4. Rashford

I would say he had been a huge influence in all honesty. He is another person who has come in that has won everything and at United too so knows what that is all about.

It was a really good appointment by Ten Hag

Fair play to him for swallowing his pride and taking a lesser coaching role, under someone who was once his assistant no less.

Wasn't he the one who knew what's wrong with Rashford?

yep. famously sat him down and said “marcush, shampions league? arshenal? fantastic for the player.”

If anyone is interested in the dynamic between the two of them should just listen to the McLaren podcast he did with his son. He spoke glowingly about ETH there.

good thread, definitely Scteeve deserves a big shout out along with Benni and that lad that does throw ins. I don think Erik could have settled as quickly in the EPL without the advice of Steve who will have a wealth of knowledge about the clubs and players in England.

Well I tried to tell you so (yes, I did)
But I guess you didn't know, as I said the story goes
Rashfords now got the flow
'Cause I knew it from the start
Feeding kids a la carte
That he’d come good again, despite the free school meals

(Return of the Mac) Come on
(Return of the Mac) Oh my God
(You know that I'll be back) Here I am
(Return of the Mac) Once again
(Return of the Mac) Pump up those balls
(Return of the Mac) Watch my flow
(You know that I'll be back) Here I go

So I'm back up in the game
Preventing injuries to Varane
Letting all the players know
I’ll take care of them, like Sancho
Mason what you did, you know, was wrong
Last time I was here I was coaching Fangzhuo, Dong
So, guysch, listen carefully
cos’ I’m back where I belong

Return of Steve Mac…

Whole team just seems in sync - McCarthy, McClaren, Ramsay, VdG etc. I guess it helps having someone so focused/clear on what they expect in ETH at the top.

He had a good reputation as a coach at Middlesbrough, and strangely enough based on their UEFA cup run he knows how to make a comeback and change things at half time. His club management and squad building was the only thing really questioned from his time there.

He's knocking on now too, after being through the ringer with a few of his jobs, so working as an assistant and maybe being able to only be involved with coaching appeals to him. A limited workload with someone you have a great relationship at a club like us sounds very enticing.

yes he was good for them. I remember too at the time Middlesborough really ramped up their scouting of young lads around the junior clubs. I remember being told by a scout way back then that McLaren was really personally involved at pushing that side of the club.

Looks like he has had a hair transplant, not committed to the bald cause.

Good to see that McClaren gets some attention here. Really like the man and he definitely deserves some credits.

From the very first day they met each other (FC Twente, 2008) McClaren was totally impressed by Ten Hag and it’s great that Ten Hag was so keen on getting McClaren as his assistant last summer. Really happy for him and I believe that, even if a big club would offer McClaren a job as head coach right now, he would stick with Ten Hag.

Hey, a Willem II fan! First one I see on here. My brother and an uncle are big fans, and I was on your stands quite a few times in the early 90s (the old concrete monstrosity). I vividly remember the first time I heard the 'hij is een hondelul' chant. :D Hope you make it back up soon - although I guess things are not looking very good for that.

Oh, right, McClaren... Uhm, yeah, good for him. Seems like a nice guy, happy he's doing well!

Yep full credit, shows an admirable level of humbleness.
ETH offered him a way back into the big time and a chance to earn a small fortune. Anyone in his position would take it, its not like he had achieved Mourinho or Pep level of success either in his career. Assistant Manager at United is a big deal and he was never going to get a better gig.

Its great to have him around because having someone as experienced and knowledgeable of the English game helps to remove any form of naivety that ETH might have. The way we are ready for the physical and cynical parts of the game isn't what someone of ETH's principles on the game will have as an attribute so having someone steeped in the English game as McClaren helps in that regard. If you remember how Van Gaal's side was run over by Vardy and Leicester you will get what I mean.

McClaren just seems like a coaching workaholic really and likely enjoys being around the boys so to speak, developing them while having a good time doing it. I think he was still England’s assistant manager under Eriksson even when he was the Boro manager.

Fact, the physicality we have displayed in some of the recent games certainly supports this. This team knows exactly what to expect and wont get mugged at hostile venues, this I am sure of.

Was always a fan of our Shteve, glad he’s back and I do think he’s been fundamental in our rise this season.

McLaren has nothing to prove, he won trophies as a manager and now gets to come back and be part of the project to make United great again. A club whom he shares fond memories with. He's not some failed returned.
