I keep wondering whether an up-to-date version of football manager could work using a game database made up of players / teams from a past era.

Imagine the 1980's for example. 'Maradona has moved to Old Trafford in a 6 million pound record deal', 'Norman Whiteside turned up to training drunk again', 'Jesper Olsen and Remi Moses have been fighting in training' etc.

Joking apart it would be good to play FM this way for a variation.
 
I'm pretty sure there was some kind of early 90's database floating around at one point. I never tried it myself so don't know how successful it was.
 
There are loads of databases like that floating around on the net, haven't used them myself, but let us know how you get on.
