On tonight. Anyone gonna be watching?

Any truth to the rumours that we may getting a glimpse of the elusive creature known as Gary "2 weeks" Neville ;)

Don't mean to take the piss out of the bloke, obviously, but I've been dying to see him in the league all season. I reckon he will improve our first XI by almost as much as the return of Wazza.

As for tonight's game, be nice to see Dong get among the goals again and I'd like to see Wellbeck start to establish himself at this level.

I wonder how long before Cofie makes the bench? He was playing with much older lads at his last club. Sounds like he has the physique to mix it with the big boys. Can't wait to see him in a United shirt

Have watched the reserves every time I´ve had a chance to this season, will definitely check this one out.

Would be nice to see Welbeck but he´ll probably come on as a sub, Brandy and Dong have a nice little parnership up front and Sean Evans and Michael Barnes have both been playing well on the flanks. He´ll probably get 20 - 30 minutes.

Aren´t Sunderland top of the table? should be a pretty interesting game this.

United's Reserves will be aiming for a fifth straight victory when Sunderland visit the Victoria Stadium on Thursday evening, but they will have to do so without club captain Gary Neville.

The Reds' skipper had been expected to continue his return from injury against the Reserve League leaders, but he has not taken a place in Brian McClair and Jim Ryan's squad.

A club spokesperson told ManUtd.com: "Gary has been training with the first team and will to continue with that as opposed to playing with the Reserves."

The Reds' second string have posted successive victories over Stockport, Middlesbrough, Wigan and Bury, and have a strong squad ready for the Black Cats' visit.

Danny Simpson and Jonny Evans bolster the Reds' backline, Chris Eagles returns to the midfield and Dong Fangzhuo is expected to start upfront after bagging four goals in as many games, with either Chris Fagan or Febian Brandy alongside him.

The visitors will include experienced stars David Connolly and Graham Kavanagh among a host of youngsters as they look to build on their one point lead at the top of the table.

United squad: Heaton, Simpson, R Eckersley, J Evans, Chester, Lee, Eagles, Hewson, Brandy, Dong, Barnes, S Evans, Zieler, Cleverley, Fagan.

Since these games are live on MUTV, surely there must be streams? If anyone know where I might find one a PM would be much obliged.

Neville doesn't actually exist any more, he's in a temporal loop lasting 1 week and 6 days.

well his lengthy absence is now even worse than Saha.

I went to school with the Sunderland 'keeper tonight, we've had a few run ins down the years

HT 0-0. All United really but have not taken their chances. Dong has looked a lot better again.

Keano is in the stand and must be annoyed to see Danny Simpson and Jonny Evans out there in the United reserves.

Trevor Carson has played really well

One to watch out for

FT 2-0. Eagles with a good strike, and Brandy with a breakaway in the last minute.

Reserves: United 2 Sunderland 0

Chris Eagles and Febian Brandy struck fine second half goals to give United’s Reserves a narrow, but highly-deserved victory over league leaders Sunderland.

The Reds missed a hatful of chances during the 90 minutes, but Eagles struck just before the hour mark with a curling 20 yard effort, before an injury time breakaway strike from Brandy sealed victory for the hosts.

Black Cats goalkeeper Trevor Carson pulled off a string of superb saves to keep his side in the match, while opposite number Tom Heaton was also in fine form on the rare occasions he was called upon.

United went into the match knowing a fifth successive victory would take them second in the Barclays Premier Reserve League (North), and their lightning start displayed a real intent to do just that.

Brandy and strike partner Dong Fangzhuo were in scintillating form from the off. Dong shot just wide from distance after eight minutes, before Brandy turned Dong’s cross goalwards – only for Carson to save well with his legs.

The pair combined again just after the half hour as Brandy directed Dong’s cross just over the bar, before Dong arced a shot just wide of Carson’s post from distance.

The Sunderland stopper was left well beaten by a Michael Barnes volley which bounced down into the ground and up onto the crossbar, but he was more than equal to Brandy when the diminutive striker raced clear on goal.

There was still time for Dong to come close with two more powerful efforts, one blocked, another just off target, before the half-time whistle. Quite how United had failed to score was a mystery.

When Eagles was thwarted in another one-on-one after the break, it seemed like a frustrating evening was on the cards for United. The 21-year-old, however, had other ideas.

With 59 minutes gone, Eagles picked the ball up on the left edge of the area, cut infield past two Sunderland defenders and passed a precise curling effort inside Carson’s far post.

It was always going to take something special to beat an in-form opposing goalkeeper, and Eagles’ strike was just that. He almost repeated the feat twice shortly afterwards, but his dipping volley crashed off the top of the crossbar before a lovely free kick grazed the side netting.

Tom Heaton, a virtual spectator for much of the match, had to be alert with 20 minutes remaining, however, as his fingertip save brilliantly tipped Roy O’Donovan’s long-distance half volley onto the post and away.

United continued to enjoy the lion’s share of possession and chances, however, and it was no more than they deserved when Brandy raced onto a long punt forward in the final minute to coolly slot home a second.

United: Heaton; Simpson, Chester, J Evans, Cleverley; Barnes, Hewson, Lee, Eagles; Dong (Welbeck, 76), Brandy.

Dong looks like a different player from the bag o shite I was watching at the beginning of the season.

He looks a lot more enthuasiasic then he did at the start of the season. Don't see him ever being a regular for United, but he's quick and strong and has a decent touch.

It'd be interesting to see how he would play with better players, but it's hard to see getting any playing time with the first team any time soon. A move on loan in January could be good for him to show what he can do.

He's looking pretty close to Championship level. Still a long way to go to reach Premiership (never mind United) level.

But his improvement has been amazing and he is clearly strong and quick as feck.

So maybe, just maybe...

Dong seems to be playing with a lot of confidence but he also looks a lot fitter than before, causing a lot of problems with his pace and power, he and Brandy have a nice partnership. Brandy looks like a great talent, needs to improve his end product but there´s a lot of raw potential there, was a bit frustrating at times tonight but at the end deserved his goal and it was a great finish.

Our football tonight was quite good but our poor finishing could have cost us. Keano and Van Der Gouw will be very happy with young Carson though, if it wasn´t for him we would have scored over 10! Brandy, Dong, Eagles and Barnes all played well overall but all missed some good chances, mostly because of good goalkeeping but also because of some poor decision making, quite a few times did players shoot when another player was in a better position. But we deserved the win no doubt about that.

Have to mention Tom Heaton, didn´t have much to do but still had 2 - 3 top class saves.

I think that comes with the territory in reserve footy. Individually, it's probably more important for them to get noticed, by notching a lot of goals, than it is for them to get a win for the team.

I defended Dong when the world and his wife were taking a pop - there's no way Fergie would let a marketing gimmick play at his club if he didn't at least see some potential in him. It remains to be seen how much better he will get, however, but confidence is clearly a big part of his game

Dong impressed Fergie on the SA tour 18 months ago. But he looked nothing like the same player for most of this year after he moved to Manchester. He's looked a lot more like that player we saw in South Africa lately. I think United will want to give him every chance to make it as he went on loan to Antwerp for 3 years just to get a chance to come to United.

But I think these good performances for the reserves will just get a better class of club looking for him on loan in January. If he wants to make it at United then he'll have to play regularly for a decent side and make a name for himself. Maybe then he could come back to United with the self confidence to be a useful asset to us.

yeah i was quite impressed with that strong run he did in the previous game that led to the goal (i think)..... he looked totally different in that game - powerful and skillful

Dont get sucked in, hes not up to it simple as.

Nobody´s saying he´s United quality, just that he looks like he has some footballing ability, quite a bit actually and that he´s far from being the clown he was made out to be not long ago.

he did look particularly crap though....and he wasnt scoring at all which is not encouraging for a striker in the reserve league....still, good luck to him... i he he makes a success of this season
