Ricky Sbragia takes charge of his first game as Manchester United's new reserve team manager.
The former Sunderland coach will attempt to tutor some of United's most promising young talent, and endeavour to drag the Reds up from 9th place in the FA Premier Reserve League against Aston Villa tonight.
Jimmy Davis returns to action for the club after a highly successful loan spell at Swindon Town, and he will be desperate to highlight how first team football has improved his game.
United's opponents Villa are currently in fifth place in the league and will provide Sbragia's young charges with a stern opening test.
Ironically, the game against the Villains will be United's first since taking on Sbragia's Sunderland three weeks ago. Now, switching sides, Ricky will be hoping to repeat the 3-1 result when he was last at Moss Lane, although this time in the Reds' favour.
Meanwhile, European football commitments mean two reserve team fixtures will be postponed in the coming weeks. Both fixtures are away, the first against Bolton Wanderers on Monday 25 November as the United squad travel out to Switzerland to face FC Basel a day later on Tuesday 26 November.
The second postponement comes in the game against Leeds United on Tuesday 10 December due to Leeds’ Uefa Cup commitments.
The games will be rescheduled at a later date, and ManUtd.com will keep you posted.
Tonights United reserves line-up: Carroll, Lynch, Rankin, Roche, Taylor, Wood, Chadwick, Richardson, Nardiello, Davis, Pugh. Subs from: Heath, B Williams, Sims, Fox, Johnson.
Not a bad side out tonight. Great to see little Jimmy back - a great player who I think could do a job for the first team. Interesting that Neil Wood has returned. I thought he had left the club but has obviously been injured. Also, defensively I think we could struggle. Looks as though Kris Taylor will be playing CB, and he ain't that good.
I'd expect Richardson and Davis to only play 60 minutes tonight as they are likely to be in the first team squad for the weekend.
