Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will take a young squad across town this evening as the Reserves resume league duties at Manchester City.
United's 15-man squad boasts just nine first-team appearances (and only one start), with Zoran Tosic, Ritchie De Laet and Joshua King the only members to have tasted senior football at Old Trafford. The Reds currently top the Barclays Premier Reserve League North (ahead of Liverpool on goal difference), while City lie just three points behind.
Solskjaer and assistant Warren Joyce have been prevented from calling on more experienced figures for tonight's derby due to the first-team's simultaneous involvement in Champions League action. But it means a number of youngsters now have a chance to shine in what is traditionally one of the toughest fixtures on the Reserves' calendar.
United's last outing ended in Lancashire Senior Cup heartbreak as Solskjaer's men crashed out of the competition on penalties at the hands of Liverpool.
Tonight's fixture will be played at the Manchester Regional Athletics Arena and kicks off at 7pm. MUTV will screen highlights on Wednesday 4 November at 17:30.
United squad: Zieler, De Laet, Dudgeon, Evans C, Gill, James, Stewart, Norwood, King, Eikrem, Tosic, Devlin, Wootton, Tunnicliffe, Ajose, Brandy
City squad: Nielsen, Trippier, Cunningham, Boyata, Mee, Tutte, Mak, Marshall, Poole, Nimely, McDermott, Johansen, Ibrahim, Moore, Guidetti
