Do we have any sort of idea on who will be leaving the club in the summer from the reserves and youth team?.

At a guess, I think Cathcart, Brandy, Stewart, Possebon, Zieler and Chester will be leaving.

Stewart to go? He's only just turned 19. I think he'd be given an opportunity at reserve level next season.

It was purely based on some tournement as a 12yo where someone likened him to Pele!.

Never that outstanding for United.

I thought Stewart was 20 now?. My mistake.

Anyway, I still don't think he will make it.

Shame about Brandy. That broken leg sure screwed him over.

There were high hopes for Cathcart and Possebon, too.

Stewart is very inconsistent but the talent is there. It's his first full season in the reserves so next year will be important for him to improve.

As for those going, I think there is a likelihood that the following will leave in the summer in addition to Zieler:

Hewson
Moffat
Chester
Cathcart
Gray
Brandy
Possebon

Those moving up from the U18s are:

Devlin
King
Petrucci
Brady
Wootton
Brown

I could also see a number of loans as the Academy squad is still quite big and I would expect players like Keane, Pogba, Tunnicliffe and maybe Morrison to feature for the reserves.

heaton said he'd be moving on too . has he found a new club ?
gray, chester , hewson and brandy likely to leave too

posse and cathcart might get some more time

In yesterday's programme several observers/journos were asked about who'll make it and Paddy Crerand felt Eikrem had an excellent chance. Possebon was mentioned to which kind of surprised me but there you go...

The one player singled out again and again was Morrison if he could get his attitude right.

I suspect Possebon will be given one more season (a full one this time, his loan last year really didn't help him) before he's allowed to leave.

Tunnicliffe is my first choice - he has so many qualities United lack and he never has a poor game

My worry with him is that he may be all bark and no bite - great at this level where his force of personality carries him through, but will he have the all-round quality to flourish at higher levels? I hope so, but it's my biggest concern with him at the minute.

He is not a very technical player - but you can say the same about players like Roy Keane and Steven Gerrard - he is however not a bad passer of the ball - and he appears to have quick feet.

I really believe Tunnicliffe can make it - players like him very often get further than their quality indicates simply because they are winners. Nicky Butt, Gary Neville etc

No, it wasnt. The boy made his Reserves debut at 15 (when the usual age of the players was the 19-22 range), was toying with defenders for fun, literally taking the piss, but was still head and shoulders above the rest of his teammates. Then he broke his ankle against Bolton, and he hasnt been the same ever since...T'was a shame, he could have gone on to be an absoloute star in our team...

He was also outstanding when our youth team won their version of the champions league in its first year.

Then again so was Michael Barnes :nervous:

I'd be a bit surprised if Cathcart was released, Chester as well actually. Both had seriously injury-disrupted seasons coming off very good ones (I know CC struggled at Watford but he'd previously performed well in the Championship), not exactly sure what their contract situations are but I'd probably expect the club to give them the chance to push on after those injuries. Both decent, sellable assets potentially. Possebon I wouldn't expect to be released either - sold perhaps, but would expect him to stay for another year after this season having been a bit of a write-off.

i dont think cathcart will leave .. fergie rated him highly a couple of seasons back .. mentioned him and evans as good defenders coming through
he had a good loan spell at plymouth .. a poor few months at watford and injuries made this season a forgettable one... but he has age on his side

chester has been around for a while .. if he stays on, then i hope he gets some first team action ..
he was highly rated too .. captained the reserves didnt he .. went to peterborough last season as well for a month

edit: googled
cathcart and chester are the same age. . 1 month in it
hmm .. i always thought chester was much older
keep them then

I just don't really see where Cathcart or Chester fit in. We'll have Smalling and Evans of a similar age, and also De Laet. That seems adequate cover and the squad needs trimming.
