Just heard about the new Reserve League for next season.

This is really weird!

Group 1: United, Bolton, City, Newcastle and Wigan

(We play these home and away = 8 games)

Group 2: Blackburn, Blackpool, Everton, Liverpool and Sunderland

(We play all these once home or away = 5 games)

Group 3: Arsenal, Villa, Chelsea, WBA, West Ham and Wolves

(We play all of these once either home or away = 6 games)

Total of 19 games

Winner of Group 1 plays winner of Group 2 to see who faces winner of Group 3 in play-off shield.

Why do people keep fecking about with football?

PS18 will be happy we are in the same group as Bolton given what riveting matches they always turn out to be!

I quite like the idea as often the players coming through the Academy will be playing against the same players through every different stage of their formative careers. This opens it up to new challenges and makes it a little less predictable which will hopefully be a positive.

A very confusing system. I still don't get it completely, seems like Group 3 have an easier run in just because they are from the South.

Interesting - nice to have some new opponents. Seems a bit of a cack-handed playoff system though.

I guess something had to be done with Stoke and Fulham joining Spurs in dropping out (and Birmingham as well seemingly) - would have been a six-team Reserve League South otherwise, as none of the Northern teams could really drop into it.

Only problem is....I know half a dozen lads who regularly went to Reserve away games.

They can't afford first team games, can't get tickets for away games and now they will miss a large chunk of the Reserve season.

The only positive for me will be the chance to play the likes of Arsenal at that level at Alty.

That's a valid criticism, but I can also see quite a few positives.

Sorry, but why not just play each team twice a season. It is only 30 games a season.

Didn't Arsenal dissolve their reserve team like Tottenham?
