It's a holdover from back when you were in the newbies. I think you need something like 100 points to be promoted automatically (you can be promoted early if you're exceptional), and you get them for writing decent posts.
When you're promoted they're still there (you should be able to see the last posts you received reputation for, though of course you can't read them since they're in the newbies and you're not allowed in there anymore). So basically, ignore them. They were what helped you become a fully-fledged member of the Caf, but, now that you are, they're totally useless.

what he really means is that the reputation points indicate how "easy" you are. In this case, marcos' 1200000000000000000 rep points indicate he is a wanton slut, which is why he is so highly regarded in caf circles.
same question as green demon - just seen this on mine and i was never a newbie ? been here years ?( granted dont post much - silent minority)
How many threads have been started about those damn points? Seems a lot.
There's even a sticky on it kinda' at the top of the admin help forum by weaste.
Oh and that reminds me something I noticed after those changes is that when you go to a closed thread you cant quote a post from there.
