Four of us left Manchester at 9.30am and we got to West Ham about 1.30pm (don't try parking near the ground - it's a nightmare). WHU started the better and that village idiot called Lomas outjumped Silvestre to score with a header. We then replied with a goal from Beckham who lobbed the ball over James from the right hand side of the box. WHU then scored a good goal through Kanoute. Our second equaliser came from a Beckham free kick, Nicky Butt scoring with an overhead kick. At this point I thought WHU were the better side, but once we pushed Solksjaer to the left and put Scholes in the middle, we started to dominate. Keane nearly scored with a shot just before half time.
In the second half, Scholes put us in front. Solksjaer took the ball to the goal line and despite having 2 defenders round him, he managed to put the ball on a plate for Scholes to score from close range. Solksjaer then made it 4 with a goal from a narrow angle. We had chances from Keane & RVN to make it 5, but just when it was looking comfortable, WHU made it 4-3. By this time there was about 5 minutes left but fortunately we got a penalty when Scholes was brought down. I thought it was a definite penalty but a couple of mates thought it was a bit dodgy. Anyhow, Beckham hit the penalty right down the middle to make it 5-3 (RVN had just been substituted). Forlan nearly made it 6 in injury time with a shot that just went wide.
Best players for Utd were Keane, Butt, Scholes & Neville. The support from the United fans was as always, tremendous. The only problem was that because there had been some trouble outside the ground before KO, we were kept in the ground for half an hour.
