I know it's probably been discussed on here before my time.

But i think the 'rep' function used on other simliar sites works really well, and adds a bit too the community (gay i know).

Wondering why it's only used as a Mod thing for newbies on here, and why we can't rep eachother, for good posts or help etc.

Also get to see who is always on a WUM, and who is genuine, and knows there stuff.
For example Pogue, would be drowned in rep i imagine, while Guus would have a little red icon next to his name.

Ta.
(I'm sure there's a vald reason as to why we don't have it)

Good idea

Would encourage people not to post shite

It would make the place boring, would it not?
Everyone will be sensible and there would be nothing to laugh at.

People would abuse the system.

And by people I mean Hectic.

I'm geussing that's why we don't have it.
But on other sites there's a limit to the amount you can rep etc, and you'd have to trust Mods are'nt retards about it.
You really think a rep system would stop the nonsense!

Quite right, and it works both ways too, you can only green a particular memebr so many times in a row or close together without others also, the system likees an even spread.

I very much doubt that.

A one week trial to test the user base should do little harm. Wouldn't have it active in every forum if i could help it mind you.

Good stuff Nick.
Your probably right regarding it's use in particualr forums.

Well, won't that also stop (no, not completely) people posting controversial views?

I think the system is OK as it is.

Like Churchill said: The biggest argument against democracy is a five minute discussion with the average voter.

People with a bad reputation can make good posts too, you know.

Collina...

Rep does'nt effect a great deal, just adds an element to the site.
If a poster had bad rep, a good post would go towards him/her earning good rep! It aint a complicated system.
As you say the site is fine as it is, i just think it may imporve it, if it's something easy to implement.

Yes, possibly. I'm just trying to be critical. :)

But you know, most people in the world are idiots. That will be the problem with the system.

(And yes, Pogue Mahone will get a lot of points. And he deserves it!)

I don't really care, but maybe someone will be afraid to come with controversial views that people don't want to hear?

Well i've answered those questions in your first post mate!
So perhaps you are being what i've highlighted...

I don't know how people react to things like this, that's why I'm asking. And at a Norwegian United forum where I'm admin, people are talking about this too. And I don't want people there to be afraid of posting critical views either, you know.

And yes, would've been good sometimes to find out who is always a WUM.

No need for it, it is fine the way it is with the newbie forum having the rep. Surely if you get promoted, you have to be a decent poster anyway.

there's a code in which you cant rep the same poster consecutively.

that i have 2 green boxes :smirk:

Seems like the Caf's general public likes it.
What about the people that matter!

We used to have it, it's fecking crap. Make your own rep, you do not need stars under your username, you will see what people think of you by the way that they treat you.

I thought that might be the reply.
:annoyed:

Well, what's the point of it? It doesn't make anyone a better poster. In fact, it can lead to witch hunts and bullying. It's not a very objective measure of anything. Everyone that regularly frequents the Transfer Forum would either have a rep off the scale in the positive or off the scale in the negitive, despite the two cases being a dictionary definition of "Muppet".

I decide who I think are good posters based on what they post. My idea of a good poster could be different to the majority opinion, as the majority may well be cnuts:D

Only have it in certain forums then, as i say the system is hard to spam.
Just lets you know who is genuine/a good laugh, as oppose to basing someone's crediblity on their post count.

It is a useful tool to acknowledge a good post by a member in passing. Say there is a large debate going on but a few people are making similar points and you don't have the time to quote and reply to them all, you can simply green them instead.

Look, it does work on other forums, that is a fact.

As i said earlier on, where's the harm in a trial run?

I am not certain of how WeasteDevil votes in politics but he sure seems to be well conservative as goes any form of change on here or hint of it. lol

Not sure, could turn into a bit of an arse licking or a campaign crusade potentially. I'd do no good, I might make a bit of rep in the football forums, but it'd be far outweighed by the neg rep I'd collect in the general!!!

If it doesn't cost extra and isn't much hassle to set up though, why not give it a test out? Never know until you try

Exactly, and only give bad rep facilities to mods? Therefore no bullying etc, it's simply a positive thing.

What Weaste said.

Plus we already use it in the newbie with only admins/mods being able to give or take away rep points leading to automatic promotion.

Or not.

Forumwide? When was this out of interest?

Many of the negatives that concern you and Wibble so are i believe restricted by teh system a fiar bit anyway.

Furthermore is it not also possible for individual users to prevent others from giving them rep points [good or bad] if they so wish? Or the mods to implement this for them?

If yes, and it be a purely voluntary scheme, people can withdraw themselves from the process and only the willing would be invovled. No issue.

A newbie had a good idea (it had to happen eventually). Established posters who want to get rep points are demoted to the newbie where they can have all the rep points they like assuming they post well.

Sorted.

Seriously though. It is never going to happen. It would be distracting, annoying and irrelevant plus it would appeal mainly to the MySpace generation demographic who are overly represented on here now.

It'd be fun for a little while, neg repping Spoony as often as the system allows me to.

You'd have to be seriously concerned though for anyone who takes their reputation points on an internet forum seriously.

Unless we want to turn this into another kiddies board, where gimps freely spout off opinions about how Ronaldo is rubbish because the refs always cheat for him, "rotfl", whilst others are reprimanded and "neg repped" for using the word spastic.

Oh wait the thread's closed
