But nothing too be especially proud of if we're hoping for trophies.

We beat a newly promoted team of ten men, by one goal.

But when I watch the game later, I'll decide if I'm happy about it - if we played well, I'll have no worries. It's all I want!

expect more of this type of performance this season... we need something extra up front..or we'll continue to struggle against this liverpool/england style of play..

Never was gonna be an easy game, which I've said all week. Three points in the bag, it sounded like we played well and created lots of chances. Can't ask anything more than that.

Listening to Talksport now, and one of the presenters just said the stupiest thing I've heard in a long time; he says Man United should be ashamed of themselves because we had the nerve to celebrate the goal

Relieved yes, worried - not particularly.

The problem today was that we didn't convert chances, nothing else concerned me. I think scoring goals is something which will improve as the season goes on. That's not to say I don't think we need a fourth striker, because we do!

It did look a touch off-side.

United played okay, upped a gear in around the 30th minute mark. Perhaps it was due to the heat, United didn't really start well and couldn't seem to attack with a purpose. But there were still quite a lot of chances unconverted, and I guess we are all happy with the three points! :D I went screaming when Ole scored. :D

i wonder what our record is against teams that have played the 'liverpool' way at OT...

we scored a hatful last season..but struggled against this type of oppostion..

i hope we get a skillful pacey striker... either that or we stay back in our box and give oppostion the ball. ;)

or we play 2-5-3 like today ;)

yeah, a terrible mistake from carroll like that one that ALMOST happened today...thank god that was just a goal kick.

Well in the first game last year, we conceded two goals. I know we scored two less today, but I'd rather keep a clean sheet, than score and concede several.

Depends how we approach the games, as long as we're playing attacking football, I'm not too bothered whether we win 1-0 or 4-3 (probably prefer the latter actually)

True.

I wouldn't want to see a boring 1-0 - but an exciting 1-0 with plenty of opportunities and some good football would be OK imo.

I know one team that plays the 'liverpool' way the best. Ask Danny Murphy how well you do against that team. :p ;)

what the feck is this about not celebrating a win? that's fecking nonsense! it's the same commentators who slate liverpool...a win is a win.

anyways, i thought blanc was shite today. skinned by jason roberts? it doesn't bode well for your lot, does it?

We didn't really producing so much chances in the first half and early second half. Not until we revert back to our "normal" formation did we start to create chances after chances. So the most important thing is that we won't play with formation experiment again.

SAF tried th 4-5-1 formation last season on more than than one occasion and we lost more than we won. I agree 4-5-1 does not work 4-4-2 yes or today 2-5-3 or 2-6-3 however you look at it but that was a smart move by SAF had we lost he would of been shot

Even if now we won I've already shot him in another thread. We all think we should have learnt something from last season's failure, but obviously we haven't.

Drop veron, keep a 4-4-2 formation with Becks and giggs on the wings and Ole & Ruud up front for as many games as possible until someone got injured. That's the way we should do in this season.

4-4-2 is an outdated system.. besides, becks and giggs can be marked out of the game, easily... leaving the midfield very weak in that old system.

not as simple as u think, sonny.

Giggs started in the middle today and he was still completely marked out before he moved back to the left in second half. 4-4-2 is a safe system which we seldom did too wrong when starting with it. Therefore we should start with this formation and change it according to the need, not the other way round.

What formation did we use in Hungary?

Hard to say really. I think it was one to confuse the opposition, but only confused the rest of us.

Giggs appeared to play down the centre, and Ole on the left wing. So on paper it was 4-4-2, but in reality it was, ummm, well - 11?
