Release and Black by Pearl Jam

"Ten" of Pearl Jam and "Jar Of Flies" by Alice in Chains are albums that I listen when I want to shut the feck up and chill.

Magical albums, can't find a proper words for music recorded by PJ and AIC.

It's music from my late childhood when I was pissed on everything and everybody. I used to listen to "Ten" when I was after a drinking party.

This album is a mental healer, I tell Ya. Every song from "Ten" is good.

I love 'Yield' by Pearl Jam, although it is not their best album. 'Wish List' and 'Given To Fly' are very good songs.

Difficult to name one song by them. Too many good ones. Immorality maybe.

Or maybe Daughter.

Actually Thin Air's the best probably.

There is no debate here. Black is one of the best songs of all time

Betterman is class also, I'll give you that

I consider Release to be Pearl Jam's best song ever.

I think I agree. Amazingly meditative, perfect song that makes you forget the world, unique one for that reason

true.

Betterman comes to mind as well.

Yup, Daughter's another one. From their other albums only assorted songs get playtime in the Mp3. Better man as well and Rearview Mirror

Vedder's had some bloody life hasn't he?

Oh, mehro, do you happen to know Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is one of his influences?

Yeah.

I've read a lot about PJ's influences. Even read Ishmael, the book that was the inspiration behind Yield.

And as a schoolkid I used to spend hours searching for different interpretations of their songs. I was fecking crazy I was.

Did pretty much the same for Soundgarden. And I used to hunt the net for pictures that had both Cornell and Vedder in them. feck, that sounds so sad.

I've taken up the guitar a few times only to quit after a few hours. I'm a lazy bastard.

I much prefer doing something that requires minimal effort in my free time. Like reading a book or watching a movie.

Agreed.

I gather speed

From you fecking with me

BBC4 tonight at 21:00pm. The PJ20 film is on, celebrating 20 years of Pearl Jam.

Duration: 2 hours

In 1990 they started a band, their first album went gold, then sold 13 million copies. The band would go on to sell more than 60 million records worldwide and perform in nearly every major city in the world. Now they have opened their vault, with 20 years of rare and never-before-seen footage to tell their extraordinary story. From one of the great directors of our generation.

Told in big themes and bold colours with blistering sound, this is the definitive portrait of Pearl Jam - part concert film, part intimate insider-hang, part testimonial to the power of music and uncompromising artists.

Carved from more than 1,200 hours of footage, live performances and recent interviews, the film chronicles the years leading up to Pearl Jam's formation, their rise to fame and the chaos that ensued soon thereafter.

Academy Award-winning director Cameron Crowe has assembled the best-of-the-best from Pearl Jam's past and present in a compelling narrative that recreates the visceral feeling of what it is to love music and feel it deeply.

After 20 years, nine bestselling albums, 60 million record sales and thousands of live performances across the globe, Pearl Jam has a devoted fanbase often compared to that of music legends like the Grateful Dead, Bruce Springsteen and the Who, propelling them into superstardom and solidifying their position as one of the biggest, most magnetic touring acts in the world.

"Black" is an amazing song, always reminds me of Led Zep for some reason though. Aaron whatever his name from Staind does a cover on youtube, really well done. Never thought I'd hear someone come close to Vedders version but he does.

As a massive PJ fan who has been into them since they first appeared, I am excited about this.

Thanks for the info.

No problem, I'm a big fan myself and I hoped there would be a few on here that would be pleased to know about it.

Saw it when it released here in the US. Good fun but nothing new for PJ fans. I think their history is fairly well known from Mother Love Bone to Eddier Vedder's tapes, Temple of the Dog etc. One thing that I didnt like was that all the interviews they did specifically for the film were done individually with the band members. you never seem them sit and talk together. And they spent way more time talknig about Andrew Wood's death than I had expected. Chris Cornell got teary eyed talking about it.

Black is stunning. But Versus is my favourite album, then Vitalogy. Ten comes an extremely close 3rd place. Although memories and nostalgia might cloud my opinion here.

The thing is, think how good Ten actually is! And yet you consider it their 3rd best. Just goes to show what an amazing band they are. Ten my's personal favourite though. The first 5/6 songs are godlike.
