Can't be bothered to keep putting them in the Dancehall thread cos there's enough of them to make their own thread & I'm just gonna keep updating them. 9 times out of 10 a Reggae cover is banging & a lot of the time more enjoyable than the original. The only really shit one I've found so far is UB40's version of "I'll be watching you", but that shouldn't count cos they're UB40, and UB40 shouldn't be counted in anything.

Selekta's Selection 10.

Fever (When You Touch Me) - Susan Cadogan ft Lee Perry
Son of A Preacherman - The Gaylettes
Bang Bang - Tomorrow's Children
Nothing Takes The Place Of You - Prince Buster
Louie Louie - Toots & The Maytals
Billie Jean - Shinehead
Ring My Bell - Blood Sisters
Paranoid Android - Easy All-Stars
Heart Shaped Box - Little Roy
The Guns of Navarone - The Skatalites

and the Novelty 3.

Dr Who Theme - The Simmertones
The Tim Burton Batman Theme - Skavoovie & The Epitones
Coronation Street - Izzy Royal

Bangerang!

Dread Zeppelin are a bit of a mish mash of several things, including Elvis impersonating, but it's still essentially Dubby.

Conversely, I can't think of any good covers of original Reggae songs taken out of the genre...

P.S You're all cnuts.

It's sort of sampling though isn't it? Or at the least just adding a beat to a straight cover. A lot of jungle tracks I loved when I was a raver operated on the same principle. It's interesting how Reggae can adapt virtually any genre well, but no other genre can (seemingly) adequately cover a reggae track without retaining it's core genre traits in some form.

Also, I don't count "Murder She Wrote" as a proper Reggae tune. Anymore than I count Chris Brown as proper RnB. It's more modern Reggae Dancehall.

No 9 in the OP. I liked them. Well, some of them. Easy All-Stars have also done entire albums of St Peppers, Dark Side of the Moon & OK Computer to Reggae. To varying success, but all contain at least a couple of smashing versions.

Im a fan of the EasyAllStars stuff - Ive heard they are good live as well but yet to see them.

The guy in the green T-shirt looks a bit "special" bless him.

The St Peppers one (Lonely Hears Dub Band) is the least good IMO. Both Radiodread & Dub Side of the Moon are very fun albums.

'Electioneering' and 'Climbing Up the Walls' are the only tracks which really work from the Radiohead cover album.

Have to agree about reggae producing good covers but being covered badly. Nice idea for a thread.
