On the move..
Does it look the same or does it have a brand new look to it? Does it have more smilies or the same ones? Will it take time to adobt to or does it have the same features as this one? Does it have Avatar? Oh, and will we all have to re-register? Will all the posts from here be moved over to the new one? Will it have a search-string where you can look for old threads? Will it rid us completely from CGI-limits?

Just anxious :D

We need a new forum because UBB sucketh the big one! I haven't gone around announcing this to all and sundry because there's still a lot to sort out before it can happen. But trust me, it's a far superior piece of software we're changing to - http://www.vbulletin.com/

In answer to you questions DLE:

Most forums follow a similar style but vBulletin does look different in a number of ways. However, you'll get the hang of it in no time whatsoever. You may very easily have used a vBulletin forum on another site - it's very popular.

It will use the same smilies that we currently have but new ones can be added if they're not of the ridiculous nature i.e. big huge smilies of someone sticking their head over a wall or holding a huge sign telling someone to **** off! ;)

Feature wise it's far superior, which is one of the major reasons for the switch. You'll know what I mean when you start using it.

Avatars are included but will not be activated, they're pointless imo and will just slow things down and increase the bandwidth uses. Same goes for signatures.

Re-registration will not be required - your profile will be transferred across. However, some minor data in your profile (like favourite player, moment etc) may be lost and have to be re-entered.

All posts will also be transferred across, although having tested the transfer yesterday a few threads may be lost.

There is a search feature but until I test that out thoroughly I don't know if it will be active. If it's too much of a resource hog then it'll be disabled. Hopefully it will work ok because there are some cool advantages to having it on - e.g. at the bottom of every topic there can be links to other "Simliar Topics".

The new software won't rid us of the cgi-limits but hopefully the new server I'm lining up will.

I hope that relieves your anxiety DLE!

eta for this switchover is sometime this month so stay tuned :)

When can we expect the big update?

By the way, it's a good idea to get the new software - this forum is in serious need of a facelift.

Some time in the next couple of weeks I think.

I expect the place to be out of action for at least 24 hours.

I've no idea.

Did your life come to a halt?

Great, CGI-limits will be history and as long as you use the same colors and all..it's not going to involve any changes. GREAT!

Why weren't you able to fix the change yesterday?

yesterday I was just testing out transferring the members & topics to vbulletin, it wasn't intended to be the full switchover. That won't come for at least another couple of weeks as blythy says....maybe longer

There's still a lot to do and my plate is kinda full with other stuff atm.

When the change is made this place will definitely be out of action for at least 24 hours, maybe longer.

Can we have a bit more yellow, blue and white Niall?

There's as much chance of that happening as a Leeds fan becoming an admi.....uh oh....

;)

Don't thank me yet, there's still a good chance this whole thing will blow up in my face and you'll all be homeless... ;)

Glad to hear you're not activating Avatars etc... I fecking hate forums where each one sentence post takes upa whole page 'cos of a photo that somebody thinks is funny enough to go in their signature

Good luck Niall, and thanks in advance... :D

Signature and Avatar isn't the same thing.

July 30th, three weeks later and we're still waiting ;)

Yes 'technical difficulties' have arisen, rest assured the new forum will be introduced at some point during the 2003/04 season ;)

Thank you for your patience...

Don't throw out too big promises there Niall

Any chance of some sort of desktop alarm warning with this new forum, telling us when JSingh is online so we don't miss anything important?
