MANCHESTER UNITED SIGN REGAN POOLE
Manchester United have completed the signing of Newport County defender Regan Poole for an undisclosed fee.

The 17-year-old had a successful trial at the Aon Training Complex and attracted attention from a number of clubs.

After passing a medical with the Reds, he will increase the options at the back for Paul McGuinness' Academy side with Axel Tuanzebe and Ro-Shaun Williams possibly required for Under-21 and UEFA Youth League football.

Poole represents Wales at Under-17 level and became Newport's youngest-ever player when making his first-team debut last year.

Newport manager Terry Butcher told the Welsh club's official website: "In the past few days a number of clubs have shown an interest in Regan, but as soon as Manchester United came in there was only really going to be one outcome.

"It is every boy's dream to play for Manchester United, and it's a wonderful opportunity for him to progress at such a magnificent club. It doesn't matter which country you are in, or where you are in the world, when Manchester United come calling you have to answer."

The youngster has confirmed a switch to the Premier League, joining one of the most successful football clubs in the world.

The young defender secures a dream move to join Premier League giants Manchester United, for an undisclosed fee.

Regan became the youngest player ever to represent Newport County AFC, when he made his debut against Shrewsbury Town in September 2014, aged sixteen and ninety-four days.

Regan then went on to play a further eleven times for Newport during the 2014/15 season, leading to the youngster being shortlisted for the Football League apprentice of the year award.

So far this season the centre-back has made three appearances, the most recent coming in our home defeat against Leyton Orient.

At international level Regan has been been capped at under-17 level by Wales, making his debut against Montenegro in October 2014.

Manager Terry Butcher admitted that a number of clubs had shown interest in Regan over the past few days, but once Manchester United declared their willingness to sign the defender it would have been difficult to turn down.

"In the past few days a number of clubs have shown an interest in Regan, but as soon as Manchester United came in there was only really going to be one outcome."

"It is every boy's dream to play for Manchester United, and it's a wonderful opportunity for him to progress at such a magnificent club. It doesn't matter which country you are in, or where you are in the world, when Manchester United come calling you have to answer."

"What it does show for our club is that there is a pathway right to the very top. Someone like Regan, who started of at Cardiff but was released and then came to us, it doesn't matter which age the players come to us they can emulate Regan's footsteps."

"It's a great boost for the club, in terms of the academy, the first team and the area of Newport. The region produces a lot of good, young footballing talent."

"We are active in the transfer market and there will be options for us when the loan window re-opens again in a week's time. There is a small legacy in many aspects that Regan has created, the money that he has generated could help to get other players and to give the younger boys that inspiration to possibly do what he's done one day."

Newport County AFC would like to thank Regan for his efforts during his time at the club and wish him all best for the future.

Seems he is a CB ?

Must be talented as we have some good young CB's already there.

Must've come on leaps and bounds at Newport. Apparently he was released by Cardiff.

Dont understand the sarcastic comments of some people on here. Very classy bunch.

Hopefully that won't block Williams's way to the U21s (soon).

i hope we keep him, would be sad to see him go on loan.

Eh? My left foot line was more a joke at LvG not this lad.

I don't think so. He was here for quite a while on trial so the club have had a good look at him. I believe he can also play at RB and in CM.

Good that he's versatile, hopefully we will identify his best position over the next couple of years and train him on.

Accidentally inserted your post I'd quoted in the Pereira thread, I meant to quote this.

Which you posted directly after my post asking if he was left footed.

Looking forward to see him in uefa youth league and other competitions. I read that he made his debut for newport as a 16 year old which shows that he has been rated very highly. Also read that welsh coaching staff are very keen on his development. Hopefully we found another Mensah, Wales are producing good players right now, i hope he becomes great.

Players to look forward to in youth league-
Mensah
Poole
Indy boonen
Gribbin
Goss(Not everyone's favourite but i like him, sweet sweet left foot)
Tuna...(yeah his name)

How old is angel gomes by the way, when do we get to see him in under 18's?

If he was Spanish they'd be loving it, glad we're buying young players myself, but thought we'd have got more in.
I think it's more to do with people having no idea who the lad is, no reflection in him, his ability or potential.

These people have no idea who any youth player we sign is so why the feck make a post? Their posts offer nothing, they aren't funny and they look like idiots.

He is this window's El fitouri or andy kellet
Based on what? He is more than 4 years younger than them, is a youth international, has been on trial multiple times with us and other top clubs such as Liverpool, and is a permanent signing unlike Kellett. So... no not seeing any similarities at all.

El Fitouri and Kellett were completely different level of signings anyway.

I don't know about the rest of you guys but i think Kellet put in great performances while he was on loan. Quite a few levels above El Fitouri!

How's Regen Poole getting on? He briefly became my new favourite player when he joined but then I forgot about him till just now.

Anywhere near a first team appearance?

He hasn't featured in a match yet, other than some BCDs so no way of knowing how he is doing. I think he has got his clearance so we might see him in the next u21 match on the 23rd.

Wonder if he'd have made the 1st team bench instead of Axel Tuanzebe if he'd gotten the clearance sooner and had more match fitness

I wouldn't think so, Tuanzebe is a year older and is very highly rated at the club. Already a u21 regular, u19 captain and was u18 captain as a first year scholar, the first to do so since Gary Neville. I'd imagine he'd be at the top of the list from Joyce and McGuinness to take a look at and would surely be above a new signing. Poole has trained with the first team as well though so who knows really.

But I guess he only trained because of injuries to players and the youth team not being here as well.

Poole's had experience playing 1st team football already though. Either way, good to have so many good defensive prospects coming through.

I'm not sure what the hold up is but Poole still hasn't received International clearance to play but it should be sorted in the next few weeks

Is he still not allowed to play for us? What's the issue here, I thought we bought him from Newport directly? Or did we sign him off a youth contract at Newport and need to pay compensation?
