Reds target Shevchenko

ANDREI Shevchenko is Manchester United’s top New Year target.

We can reveal the Ukrainian superstar’s goal scoring form with AC Milan is under scrutiny.

Sir Alex Ferguson is a long term admirer of the ex-Ukranian Footballer of the Year, who was third in the ’99 Fifa World Player of the Year poll, and with 20 goals is the ninth highest scorer in Champions League history.

Dream team in attack

Shevchenko, aged 26, has lightening pace and could be a perfect partner for Ruud van Nistelrooy.

United have not made an official move for the Kiev-born marksman, who switched to Serie A from Dynamo Kiev for £16m.

But they have been bolstered by a 48 per cent increase in pre-tax profits and are ready to pounce as soon as the transfer window swings open in January.

Fergie is determined to land a striker to compensate for the loss of Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke.

Reports in Italy suggest that Shevchenko is keen to test his skills in the Premiership – and his Milan club would be willing to do business if Sir Alex tabled a £15-£20m bid.

Second choice

And if that fails the United boss could turn his sights on Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen, who would cost around £10m.

Sir Alex has already warned that he does not expect high quality players to suddenly become available in January but Shevchenko is looking for a move … and fits the bill at Old Trafford.

Do you mean a shockingly bad piece of journalism or you are shocked in a good way by the article?

Shevchenko still hasn't played in Europe for Milan. I don't know when he is going to be fit again(any idea Veedey??) but it would sure be interesting if he was fit and still not picked to play in Europe. ;)

Um, ok. I'm not that bright you know. <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" /> ;)

You wanna be careful what you admit to around here ;)

Shevchenko would be significantly more expensive than 15-20m. That fee sounds like a bindipperesque bid.

I think people had already figured that out about me from my posts. ;)

you think? Ronaldo went for about £20million, and Inzaghi went for £16 million + Zenoni.

Given the transfer climate in Serie A, I don't think £20 million for Shevchenko is too far fetched.

Depends on who you read I guess. I thought the cash sum was abut £22 million with the option of more to be paid if Inter don't want any of Madrid's players in exchange when the transfer window opens.

From what i can gather Ronaldo was $30million which is around £20million.
I may be wrong of course.

If we can get Shevchenko for less than £20million we should go for it. Although don't forget Rebrov was the main goal scorer when they played together at Kiev.

It was 29.75m quid or about 47m Euros. I haven't seen Sheva much of late. I was hoping we'd go for a pacy goal machine (like Cisse) or else a creative attacker who can play the hole (like Ronaldinhio). RVN and Sheva seem too similar.

Milan haven't seen much of him lately either. I don't think he's played for Milan yet this season
I agree with the fact that Ruud and Shev may be too similar. i like the idea of signing Gudjohnson

That is a bit misleading. Yes, Rebrov scored more goals, but Sheva was 2 years younger and played in a lot less games. Their strike rates were virtually identical in the time they played together(94/95 to 98/99).

Rebrov 177 apps 89 goals
Shevchenko 118 apps 60 goals

According to Russian newspapers he won’t return before November.

Oh it’s annoying a bit to exchange pounds to dollars (euros) mentally every time you talk about business. When will the whole world use only pounds then? ;)

Shevchenko played in the CL qualifying round.

So I guess that kills the story...

Man Utd target Shevchenko wants Galatasaray move
tribalfootball.com - October 8, 2002

AC Milan's Ukraine striker Andrei Shevchenko is reportedly keen on a move to Turkish giants Galatasaray.
Reports out of Italy today suggest the move could be on as either a loan until the end of the season or a straight transfer, with Shevchenko valued at 35 million euros.

Galatasaray is coached by Fatih Terim, who was in charge of Fiorentina and then Milan in 2000.

He wouldn't be the first big name player to go to Galatasary. Tafferel, Jardel. to name but 2

I think Shevchenko is on the market and available at the right price. I actually think Milan hoped Real would come in for him.

Taffarel had been with Parma before going to Turkey. Then he came back.

He has not.</strong><hr></blockquote>

He played in the 1st leg of the CL qualifying according to the Uefa website.

Sheva would be an excelent signining but if we are too sign another world class talent i would rather we signed Ronaldinho, because it give us greater options especially with this whole 4411 formation that SAF seems to like to use.

But then again i would not say no to Sheva pulling on the red of united.

Awesome!!!! What a signing this would be. And the combination up front with RVN, I cant feckin wait to see that. <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

Sheva played in a crap Milan side with no support for a few years and created nearly all the goals on his own in the year that he was topscorer... and this in the Serie A...

Exactly!
If you give him good support from the midfield this lad will score 25-30 goals easy in each season.
What a bomb it would be if RVN and Sheva played together.

Sounds absurd, i know, but there was an article in the People  today intimating a transfer in the pipeline for @10 Mill.......any news on this? <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />
