Manchester United have signed eight first-year scholars to bolster Paul McGuinness' Under-18 squad for next term.

The latest intake includes players who were blooded in 2013/2014 with Marcus Rashford the most experienced of the group after making 10 Academy league appearances and also starting the FA Youth Cup tie at Leicester City.

Manchester-born Rashford, who already has four goals to his name for McGuinness' side, is the only forward among the selection with Ollie Byrne the solitary goalkeeper. Defenders Jimmy Dunne, Tyler Reid and Charlie Scottwill compete for places at the back.

Axel Tuanzebe and Tosin Kehinde, who has already made his Under-21 bow for the Reds despite being the youngest of the eight, are joined byTravis Johnson as the midfield options in the group.

Rashford seems to be the most highly rated amongst them all.

Interesting that Travis Johnson is listed as midfield option. Was a defender in his younger years I believe.

With us naming new scholars this soon it seems unlikely for us to have any new Academy signing during summer (might not really a bad thing since it will allow many of the highly-rated U16s crop to be more involved with the U18s squad).

Don't know how we'll do with only one real striker among the whole squad though (Croskery).

He is.

Wouldn't rule out any additions later, been quite common for us to announce the new scholars around this time and then a late addition in Aug/Sept. Happened with Pogba, Fornasier and a couple of others from memory, presumably due to their international clearance being delayed.

Lack of strikers seems to be becoming a weird tradition these days...

Thanks!
Vanja Milinkovic being one of the addition and then loaned out. All the British lads being announced now.

Travis Johnson has been playing in midfield the last couple of seasons…..don't think any role they play as a very young kid can be be determined as their 'position'….way too young to make any predictions or even judgements.

Cheers.I haven't watched him play but I know he did play in midfield last season for the U16s but I thought CB/RB is his main position since he played there on Marveld.

But surely Tuanzebe is more of a defender than a midfielder still ?!

Are Byrne and Dunne Irish by any chance? I know Croskery is from NI.
Jimmy's from Dundalk.

Liked the look of Tyler Reid when I watched the Milk Cup final last summer.

I truly expect a big season for Rashford and Kehinde.Tuanzebe also a name to watch out.Scott and Reid to challenge for RB spot with Warren from U16s.

Yeah, he was wanted by City, Arsenal and Chelsea so it's nice to get confirmation of his staying. I really like what I've seen of Kehinde too. All in all this seems like a promising group and I'm sure they'll give us plenty of excitement over the next few years.

Looking back at previous Marveld Tournaments a lot of kids played in different positions.

Tuanzebe has played in both roles….
