Don't know where this thread belongs to be honest, but had I put it in General Chat not many people would notice it.

Google made it able to use it's oldest archive search index available in honor of their 10th birthday:

http://www.google.com/search2001.html

It's funny that there for instance are no results if you search for YouTube.

The most interesting thing though is that you could view most of the pages just as they were looking then, by clicking "view old version on the Internet Archive" and thus we're allowed to see how Redcafe looked back in 2001.

http://web.archive.org/web/20010516001624/www.redcafe.net/

It's only for a month though, so enjoy.

Jesus it's changed a bit in the last 7 years...but then, I was still a teenager back in 2001 :(

Bloody hell thats really weird. All the topics seem to be you know normal. Lampard has just signed for Chelsea, Kewell for Liverpool and people are questioning whether Ruud will be any good for us. What a time to be alive.

Back then ''gay'' meant carefree, frivolous, happy! ;)

they were simpler times when men were men and used donkeys instead of new fashioned cars for transport. people would crap into the streets and peasants would wail away in horrible discomfort caused by the plague. the proletariat knew their place, as did the serfs. top hat and tails were considered informal dress and women were without the vote. everything was in black and white and everyone had a cockney accent. how i long for those days to return.

You missed out the fact that people also used Capital Letters occasionally! ;)

What happened to all those old posters - any still around?

Also, how come the log in function seems to work when clicked - is it a phishing site?

First thread in 2001 in the Manchester United forum:

"Fergie is Losing his Touch"

Another one:

"Now who to succeed Fergie?"

He had announced he was about to leave at the end of that season if you remember.

Was that in 2001? I thought that was in 2004 or something :D time flies.

Still "he's losing his touch", seems like that thread comes back every year and he's still here winning trophies.

From today's SUN.....
Markus Babbel (or should that be babble) says boss Gerard Houllier deserves a knighthood for leading Liverpool to their UEFA, FA and Worthington cup treble. Kop defender Babbel said 'Alex Ferguson got a knighthood. Houllier has brought such glory to the nation, there must be some way Tony Blair can honour him.'

:lol::lol::lol:

And I thought it's the Queen who does those awards...

Just reading the Veron threads and everyone jizzing everywhere at the prospect of him signing for us lol

some members have a "mambers rating" thing ?

it seems a good idea we should bring that back

The scousers never change.

Topic: Liverpool/manc all star team

This would be my all star 11:

Bartez
------
Carra
Stam
Hyypia
Babbel
------
Giggs
Gerrard
Keane
Beckscum
------
Fowler
Owen

6-5 to us

With 5 players on the midfield I would put in Scholes as an attacking midfielder, don't think he fits in well in a 4-4-2 system, and when Giggs gets injured I'd put in Barmby.

Any other ideas?

WOW looks like the Veron transfer was a drawn out as the Tevez/Berbatov ones 7 years later - not much has changed then ;)

This is how manutd.com used to look like in the good old days...

http://web.archive.org/web/20010917032424/www.manutd.com/

I'd totally forgotten about that.

Wow.

I also remember quite liking when they used to do a pic on the right side for every match with a mini-headline. I think it started the next season.

I've got some really funny ones I deliberately saved as funny transfer speculation - like 'Defoe To United?' or 'Viduka To United?' because during breaks and such they would make these official graphics for whatever the big news was in the papers.

My memory is a little fuzzy nowadays but does anyone remember when a mod or Niall one April Fools day changed the homepage to look like a Liverpool site?

I still have that page somewhere, I must dig it up. The abusive emails I got from people who fell for it hook, line and sinker was hilarious. Some of it was quite poetic!

Those archives bring back memories - all the old names from the forum, long gone now :(

Haha and what is the title of the first thread in the Manchester United forum? - "Ferguson is losing his touch"

Some things really do never change...

Imagine it in 99? The thread for the CL final would have had quite a few muppets changing their tone within a minute or two.

There was no forum in 99 - the world wasn't ready! :)

Hence imagine... The internet would have exploded.

is it too late to vote for zidane as the player i'd most like to have seen at united?
