The lengthy Red Hot Chili Peppers hiatus is over - the band has announced it will reconvene in October.

Drummer Chad Smith, who used his downtime to form supergroup Chickenfoot with Sammy Hagar, insists he and his bandmates plan to "jam" together for the first time in two years this autumn, ending reports of a split.

Smith tells Billboard.com:

"Everybody was like, 'Y'know, I really like having this time off, not being a Chili Pepper and doing other things... It'll be two years in September, so now we're ready.

"You can't force people to play when they don't want to play or aren't ready to play or whatever - not in our band, anyway."

Has is really been that long? Four years since stadium arcadium? Seems like yesterday.

It seems their last two albums were their most successful albums in the charts, however they never reached the heights of tunes like Under the bridge again.

Wasn't Kiedis very ill at some point ?

To be fair, I don't think they'll ever write another song quite as good as Under The Bridge. However, I think Stadium Arcadium was their best album in years, was a great listen. Looking forward to hearing what they come up with next as they're quite a rarity in music, an older band that still delivers great new music.

Stadium Arcadium was awesome and produced some amazing tunes and overall is really good to chill listening to.

Glad to hear they're back, hope they come to the M.E.N

John F. is leaving the band and Josh Klinghoffer is the new guitarist according to some e-magazines... A new beginning for the band if true.. don't know what to think of this at this point.

Really disappointed if that's true, John is amazing. When Hillel Slovak died they stuck together and look what they achieved and One Hot Minute with Dave Navarro playing guitar was still a really good album so I think they will still be able to deliver.
