I've read the following so anything that is similar would be cool, but then again I wouldn't be opposed to any random suggestions either -

Homicide by David Simon
Marching Powder by Rusty Young
The Night Stalker by Philip Carlo

I'm about to pick up God is Not Great by Christopher Hitchens soon.

So yeah, give me your best of the best!

The Ice Man - Philip Carlo. The story of Richard "The Ice Man" Kuklinski. Most of it's bullshit, but it is entertaining.

Murder Machine - Mustain and Capeci. Excellent account of Roy DeMeo and his gang of serial killers.

The Dirt - The highly entertaining story of Motley Crue. Insane.

Anything by Bill Bryson, really. My favorite books are The Lost Continent, A Walk in the Woods & Down Under.

The Black Swan - Behavioral economics
Blink - Psychology, Sociology
Outliers Psychology, Sociology
Freakonomics - Pop economics

I enjoyed God Is Not Great as well. :)

The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. Gem of a book.

Cheers for the tip lance, just ordered it on amazon. Its out of print apparently and is being reissued in March next year.

Read The Ice Man and Gaspipe recently and was always facinated by DeMeo and his crew. Im presuming its a little less sensationalised up than The Ice Man?

The Dirt is very entertaining for about 3/4 of the book. It gets quite tedious towards the end though.

Absolutely. When people are off'd (and a LOT of people are off'd), you get names. As opposed to The Ice Man in which he supposedly does away what seems like hundreds of anonymous, random people.

I bought it quite recently from Amazon, used. Perfect condition. Best mafia related book I have read.

Have you read Underboss: Sammy the Bull Gravano's Story of Life in the Mafia? It's not bad. Haven't read The Ice Man just saw a documentary on him a couple of months ago.

EDIT: To the OP if you like true crime stories then you should pick up some Ann Rule books.

Yep, it's good, too. Have you seen the movie 'Gotti?' If you like the Gravano book, you'll like that movie. It's interesting to see it played out on screen.

Wizard: The Life and Times of Nikola Tesla

Excellent book featuring all the main players in early electronics at the turn of the 19th/20th century.

The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. Gem of a book.

The Dawkins Delusion by Alister McGrath is also excellent.

The Corner - by David Simon is also a really good read if you enjoyed Homicide.

:)

FAO: Lance

Have you read The Butcher by Philip Carlo? Is it any use?

Also my copy of Murder Machine arrived yesterday....cant wait to get stuck into that one.

Sure have.

It's not as good as his others. I wouldn't go out of your way to read it. Unlike The Nightstalker and The Iceman, Carlo has no access to "The Butcher." And it shows.

Helter Skelter - the story of Charles Manson
Double Cross - Sam and Chuck Giancan "'Anyone who still believes that Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone assassin of Jack Kennedy should read this book - The Times.'

Guns, Germs, and Steel - the shaping of civilizations

Oxygen - cosmology

Ancestor's Tale - Richard Dawkins's magnum opus as a scientist writing about what he's best at, evolution. His opinionates stuff I find tiresome.

Naked Economics

John Brown - Abolitionist - admittedly an admiring account.

Visualizing Geology

Loads more. What are you looking for in particular?
