I just got my student loan through and so I'm looking to purchase the items mentioned in the title. Im rubbish with technical stuff and I also hate shopping so advice will be much appreciated.

Basically at the moment I am on pay as you go still, so Im looking for a good contract deal and whatever goodies come with it. I'm not too bothered about getting a new phone but if its free then why not. I also need a digital camera and an mp3 player because my old ones have both broken in the last few weeks.

Now, the decision Im left with is whether to have a new one of each or to get some sort of fancy combo thing. So, are there any good products out there that combine these things - i.e. a phone with a good digital camera or a mp3 player with good digitial camera, or even something that has all 3. Or is it better/cheaper to just get one of each?

Nokia N95 8GB

= all 3.

is the N96 out yet, im a bit behind!

Tah for the advice, will look into it.

The rest of you cock tarts, I thought there were plenty of people on here who would know about this stuff.

Well kish already stated it, so I didn't see the point in just saying the same but..

But is it necessarily better than getting three seperate ones?

Quality wise, is the standard worse?

What would be cheaper?

Well wtf is the point in getting 3? Just takes up more space.

This won't be the best quality mp3 player, or camera in the world.

But it's more than good enough, cam is like 5 MP, mp3's on it are great quality. And it's only one thing in your pocket instead of 3 pockets all stuffed up.

Sony Xperian X1

fully touch screen, qwerty keyboard, 3.2 megapixel camera, 16gb (using sd card) capacity

Thats nice plus I prefer SE to Nokia.

Wern't SE working on a 7.2mp camera to be out this year? Not too bothered about accessing the internet from a mobile phone though, to fidly and annoying.

they have an 8mp camera coming out later this year

C905

or samsung have an 8mp out already

Samsung i8510 INNOV8

My advice, don't buy the first few 8mp phones... wait for the second batch to come out, where they have improved and refined them.

Why don't you have a look at the new Google Android mobile it is due to launch in October... I am not too sure whether it has a digital camera or not and whether it will be available in your area any time soon but it seems a good product at a very good price as well Approx $175.. Check it out..

The quality is always going to be better with 3 separate products, it depends on your needs, how casual the use, amount of music you have, price etc.

Either way if you want to go down the route of a mobile phone for everything in one, don't get the N95 for a complete solution, its limited to only 8GB, plus the flash on the camera is poor.

The N82 is a better option, has a xenon flash (what you find on a dedicated digital camera) its memory is also expandable to 32GB's.
Or wait for a month or 2 for Sony and Nokia to release their new models.

Having said that no phone currently can match the quality of a dedicated camera, even a budget camera for ₤50 will do a better job, plus mobiles lack a optical zoom.

You need to elaborate on how demanding your uses are going too be.

the N96 comes out on the 1st October

should have a xenon flash I believe

comes with 16gb internal memory, and can be upgraded by a further 8gb

The N96 has a LED flash so is pretty much the same camera as the N95, other then the extra memory it's not that much of a upgrade.

I personally am waiting for the two other phones you posted, the Xperia x1 and C905, also the N85, which is just like the N96 but does not have the internal storage or DVB tuner.
However it is more compact, has a better screen, a FM tuner, a better battery and is cheaper.

wait for the X1

you wont be disappointed

I disappointed myself and got an iPhone, now I cant get a new phone until 2010

Video quality on the N95 is shocking as well!

cheers Chirag, looks very interesting.

Ar but the question is, why do you need a camera of top quality? What are you going to be taking photo's of? Obviously, for you Weaste, a camera phone is no good, as the zoom is digital, hence making zooming in on distant people and having a photo of decent quality, impossible.

Most people don't need exuberant zoom and generally the quality of the photo's is acceptable.

Indeed, but for the majority of people that is good enough. You have to ask yourself, what do people do with the photo's they take?

it is only going to be a matter of time before a camera company shoehorn a phone in to one of their cameras, much like apple have done with the iPhone. Sony or Samsung seem to be in the strongest position to be able to do this

It's not just the zoom, it's the quality of the lens (and the sensor). They are no better than those disposable film cameras you used to get.

This is true. People read too much into the magic Mega pixel number. The size and quality of the sensor is much more important (not to mention the lens). A lot of photographers argue that the older compact cameras with 4-6 mp had better image quality then the subsequent models with 8 - 12 mp since too much of a compromise is being made to get that many mega pixels out of such a small sensor. That's marketing for you.
