'tis a silly place
they have ended their interest. With Ronaldo on the transfer list, he can't be going anywhere else but United now, surely ? <a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/2175771.stm" target="_blank">web page</a>

it doesn`t say so in the articles, and the official press releases. a price tag with money like that isnt kind of what we are seeking at the moment

not so much as put on the list, but he and his agent have said he is looking for a new club.

I already said that Ronaldo is a risky player, he's not event worth £10M, and Real knows this too...

Ronaldo denied the agent's comments didn't he?

Imo too much has happened now for Ronaldo to stay at Inter, unless he comes up with some 'explanation' for the fans.

A deal could still be made with Real, this might just be their way of negotiating a price. Ronaldo's price will now have dropped. He could also end up at another Italian club in some kind of swap deal. Don't think he'll be coming to United, but who knows? I wouldn't rule it out.

Not sure why Karl Heinz Rummenigge should be sticking his nose in but his comments are bang on:

"When a player is injured for two years and pockets 100% of his salary, then plays the World Cup which provides no benefit for his club and then wants away with a new contract, you have to ask yourself about that player's character and that of his advisor."

We should steer well clear of this bloke.

I wouldn't be surprised if Inter are behind it all and want to sell without the fans blaming them, but blaming the player instead. Similar to the Rio deal. They already have Vieri and Recoba up front and they would like to improve the defense. Ronaldo's price may never be higher than at present.

I think Rummenigge should keep out of it. He doesn't know what the facts are.

I think the idea of it being the usual agent's trick of linking his player with another club in order to get a better contract at his own is probably the right one. And outrageous considering he'd been paid for doing sod all for years.

Transfer Merry go round (why we might still get Crespo):
Ronaldo isn't going to Real, so Nesta isn't going to Inter, so Lazio need cash, hence Crespo might still come over (Sorin looks a stronger bet, though).

I don't think he's any farther from the truth. What he knows is what we all know from all these media reports anyway

Imagine Ruud were to announce this one day.... How'd you feel?

apparently not

In a statement on his official website, he said: "I arrived in Milan and I directly went to speak to Inter.

"I confirmed my point of view which is the same as the one that my agent Alexandre Martins explained to president Massimo Moratti three months ago.

"I am sad for the fans' reaction even though I understand their disappointment.

"But I prefer to live this situation than publicly tell the reasons that caused me to think about leaving Inter."

but would inter want an unhappy player, now the fans are against him, the italians are genrally unforgiving.

we should loan him, with a veiw to buy or go for Ronaldhino.

He's a right greedy ungrateful cnut then.

how much is he on at Inter anyway ? It was only a few weeks ago that he, Vieri and Recoba offered to take pay-cuts to help ease the financial situation at Inter. Two-faced bastard.

Sell-On Clause Blocks Spurs Eto'o Bid

Morientes Talks Ongoing - Hoddle

Real Madrid have shut the door on Brazilian superstar Ronaldo.

The World Cup-winning striker told Inter Milan directors last night that he wanted to leave the Italian club only for his agent to insist that he would see out his contract at the San Siro.

And any move appears to have been killed anyway by Madrid general director Jorge Valdano in an interview with Madrid television station Cadena Ser.

"Real Madrid wish to put an end to any expectations which may have been generated (about Ronaldo)," he said.

"The case was closed with Ronaldo's arrival in Milan. Inter have held firm in their position and we have decided against pursuing the transfer in the hope that this will put an end to all the speculation.

"We haven't even made an offer, nor entered into a negotiations with Inter. We are not going to talk about any hypothetical situations. The club has analysed the information available, and the decision has now been made.

"Inter have not named their price nor have Real Madrid made an offer.''

Valdano reiterated Real's stance in Spanish sports daily Marca, claiming: "Now that Ronaldo has returned to Milan, we have withdrawn our interest in signing him and as far as we are concerned the matter is closed.

"Even if Inter should be ready to sell Ronaldo in the future, I cannot see us making a bid for him.''

How Real's stance might affect Tottenham's attempts to lure Spain international striker Fernando Morientes from the Bernabeu to White Hart Lane remains to be seen.

looks like that leaves us as the only ones who can afford him?

No, it leaves only the United States as someone who can afford him.

Only this week, Fergie was quoted on this forum as saying "Players will always want to go to a bigger club. That's life."

Clubs don't get much bigger than Real Madrid. So it's understandable that the best footballer in the world fancies playing for them.

I don't see how anyone can call Ronaldo greedy and ungrateful and not call Rio greedy and ungrateful. But I think a fair-minded person would say that both Ronaldo and Rio just want to play at the highest level, and neither of them minds doubling their ridiculously high salaries at the same time.

Real would go bankrupt if they double his wages, what u saying £200,000 a week, we could have got Ronladhino, Duff and Rivaldo ona wage packet smaller than that <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[No No]" />

You can't draw a parralelism between the two. Ronaldo has been not playing in 3 years, and was still collecting full wages, and all the support and care from Inter FC and their fans while injured. He is an ungrateful feck.

Oh yeah, poor Ronnie, he slashed his own salary by 10%, <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> knowing he wouldn't even been there... what a circus whore!!!

heh, heh, heh..........glad to see most jedi agree Ronaldo is not wanted at Utd..... ;) .....hope the board ties up that crespo deal asap...........

can we really afford him and do we really need him <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

It is important to remember that Rio responded to interest from us. I think Fergie said before the World Cup that he was interested in Rio. If we hadn't made moves Rio would still be at Leeds and no-one aware that he fancied a bigger club.

Ronaldo and his agent seem to have initiated the 'deal' with Real. Real aren't interested, possibly never were.

Great player but do we want the lack of intergrity and loyalty included in the 40-50 million price tag? Will he do an 'Anelka' next summer if he has a 'Veron' of a season? Talking of which - There were continual stories of Veron wanting out last season despite Seb and Fergie saying he was happy. How disruptive would Ronaldo be if things weren't going his way and he wanted to go?

If we want to spend that kind of money we should get someone who will fight for us, or better still two, three or four who will. We could probably get Crespo, Duff, Escude AND Sorin for that money.

Ronaldo's slary alone is €6million so hinm taking a 5% cut really is taking the piss, especially when you consider he earns another €45m a season through sponsorships with Pierrli/Nike/Brazil Telecom to name but a few. Inter wanted €100m and Real would only go to €60M. This is all totally ridiculous and if our board payed €50-€60m for a player I'd seriously question their sanity. Its bad enough paying €30m but its just getting out of all proportion and I dont want to see my club (speaking as a shareholder) put our future in doubt by flashing cash on a disloyal, half fit buck toothed greedy bastard

If Man utd felt like Ronaldo would be a worthy investment then i am sure No i am certain they would pay 50-60million, now i do think this is stupid but especially with the finacial market but man utd are reported to be worth over 1billlion pounds so i am sure they could afford Ronaldo

I think if Ronaldo were to come to Old Trafford then he would be a revelation. Is everyone forgetting he has already been FIFA World Footballer Of The Year(twice). And he is still only 26. If we are to compete with the best in the world(Real,Bayern, etc) then we must also buy the best in the world. And scoring 13 goals in 2 World Cups is no joke so I disagree with whoever says Ronaldo is an over the hill player.

Being worth a billion and having it in the bank are two vastly different things. Anyway, we were estimated to be worth over a billion a couple of years ago, but we aren't close to it now.

agree. though i doubt we'll ever have the pleasure of seeing him play in a United top.

With Inter's fans turning on him, and Real ending their interest, what will happen to Ronaldo ? His agent says he will stay till the end of his contract (2006) but, being realistic, there is no way that will happen.

This isnt Ronaldo's decision, the guy doesnt care where he plays, or at least he has little say in it. So lets not label him unloyal etc.

The people who decide where he goes are the people who 'own' him. Nike told him to leave Barca to join Inter, Nike's newest sponsored team at the time, plus Serie A was THE place to be. His agents also pretty much speak for the guy.

These particular people have been trying to pull off a transfer for months now. These rumours arent created by journalists, they are created by 'leaks' which have been strategically arranged. Sometimes journo's twist facts, but they dont sit down and create fiction.

Someone wants him out of Inter and to a bigger profile club. Most probably Nike who want their biggest worldwide asset at a bigger club. Its simple business logic.

Ronaldo has never played for a team not sponsored by Nike.

As for comparisons to Rio, Rio was not collecting 100% pay for 2 years whilst not playing. He has no debt to Leeds, he said he would like a move.

The only thing wrong with Ronaldo wanting out is that he owes them after they stuck by him for 2 years. Then again maybe they couldnt get rid of him.

oh come on! can we see some documentation about nike's "ownership" of ronaldo??? i've heard so much shit about this but never seen anything that really convinces me this is true. nike might pay him to do adverts but it's inter who pay him to play football and it's inter who own him...

But Nike pay his salary. When he went to Inter they got mony from Nike and then with the amount of jerseys sold Inter make the money back. He is only a piece of meat now and while I;d love to see him at OT I think he'll ever be fully fit again because whenever he is able to stand, let alone kick a ball, whoever he plays for will want him back in the team and ten he'll get messed up again.

Yes but he has the final say doesn't he ? I mean he can decide whether he wants a move or not. His agents can advise him as much as they like but the fact is if Ronaldo had a hint of respect and gratitude he would pull out all the stops to stay at Inter. It's not like Nike have a clause in Ron's contract saying they decide where he plays, or do they ? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Ronaldo is like an innocent footballing genius. He is probably not the cleverest guy and these agents are very cunning.

He does what they tell him, simple as that. Its like a good boy doing what the dad says cos its best for him, whether he likes it or not.

He probably trusts and has a close relationship with a bunch of advisors, all of whom will want him away from Inter, no doubt about that. Everyone who has a stake in Ronaldo right now apart from Inter want him out.

Thats alot of people, Brazil, agents, Nike. I reckon the odds are that he will stay cos no one wants to fork out in this market.

FARAWAY - With the South Americans, its not the club that comes first all the time. Ronaldo's alleigiance is not to Inter who pay him, its to himself and his country. Therefore he is open to demands from Brazil and other '3rd parties'.

Nike is with him always, whatever club he plays for and when he plays for Brazil, Inter are not.

If you want an idea of how powerful sponsors are. Cantona (who is sponsored by Nike) suggests that the World Cup was arranged so that a Nike team and an Addidas team meet in the final - and its alwas that way. Must be something to make him think that.
