Real Madrid president Florentine Perez has declared his interest in David Beckham but has played down a move with Luis Figo already at the club.
The Spanish giants have drafted in both Portuguese star Figo and French World Cup winner Zinedine Zidane in recent seasons for a combined total over 80 million pounds.
And Perez has revealed his admiration for Becks and fellow England superstar Mike Owen, but said he could make another record-breakin`move for the Liverpool striker.
Sunday,March 10,2002.
``Owen can be one of the world`s greatest players and the best players must play for Real Madrid``.

Perez is an idiot. There is no way he will prise David Beckham away from Manchester United.

Whilst in Zidane and Figo he has bought two of the world's very best players they were both bad investments because they are both in the final years of their playing careers.

And because they have spent so much on two world starts their squad is not up to the standard of the rest of Europe.

I'm impressed by Real's CL form. 5 games, 5 wins...

I would like to see the squad that is up to the standards then

They would not have to take him from us if they waited another year. Perhaps that is what Perez meant when he said there would only be one major signing this summer, take your pick from:
Nesta,
Vieira,
Owen,
Viduka etc.
and then wait till Becks's contract ends - and then snatch him on obscene wages in 2003. Hopefully not, but it could happen. :(

Real reveal they are interested in Becks and Owen

Slow day in the news or what, the front page headline was "Dog Interested in own Balls"

Their midfield simply don't have space for Beckham now. However, if they can use Zidane to exchange Beckham, then I'll take it. ;)

Perez:
"Our strategy is to sign one of the world's top players every year..."

Bonkers, they're skint  ;)

it's not a strategy at all - perez just puts half-a-dozen names in a hat each summer and that's how he decides who the club will go after....

Real Madrid may have won all their cl group games, but look @ their feckin group:

Panathanaikos, Sparta Prague & FC Porto.

Enough said, those results prove nothing yet.

Real aren't invincible both on and off the field, they can be beat, as proved by deportivo, who i might add are completely opposite to real, no major major stars but rather a feckin solid and effective team.

Real talk about getting the best players, i would like to see them try and get a player from united aka the biggest football club in world in terms of support and financial power, perez knows he cant feck with us financial we would piss all over real madrid if we really wanted to in terms of signings if we wanted to ( for that matter so could bayern), except we have a more sensible buying policy which avoids debt and having to sell our training ground to clear debts!!!!

I hope we play real in final and stuff them senseless and take away some of their bloody arrogance!!!!!!

Makalele would probably be the one dropped in the CM

That's what I thought - but in fact they've settled up all their debts. Apparently they had a shitload of land somewhere in Spain and they sold it off for sacks of cash...

Still, they'll probably be up to their necks in debt again within a few seasons.

Sometimes you wonder where Real gets the money from. Do they rob banks? Drug dealers? In fact! They get a lot money from the local government. Because the football club is one of Madrid's main tourest attractions.
Yeah...maybe United should get some money from Tony Blair too...

Real had their training ground bought off them by the Goernment for $250million (which was their debt amount). the then cleared their debt and the govt built them a new state of the art training facility for free. Local business'/local govt etc all contribute to Real and at the moment they are loaded, probably the richest club in the world. I know we are listed as no1 richest but you cant compete with that, they are a national representative and everything possible is done to ensure they are the biggest and best team in the world.

wankers! ;)
