The likes of Rashford and Luke Shaw have now survived 5 managers at United. The head clown departs but the sub-clowns continue to sit around and make millions while putting in sub-standard performances. Hopefully this sh*t show continues for years.

not a ridiculous take, bit harsh on Shaw who seems to be one of your better performers when fit. As for Rashford, consistently inconsistent and there too long now which brings influence in the dressing room, should have got rid couple of seasons ago.

I think as UTD fans we should only worry about ourselves. We aren’t even rivals at the moment, we’ve fallen so far. Liverpool have been great under Slot he’s embarrassed his fellow countryman ETH by how well he’s done. City, Arsenal and Liverpool are all in the race and we are 14th and at the lowest point I can remember. I’ve been watching since early 90s.
 
I'm actually surprised they're moving this quickly....it's not their usual procrastination and interimship. I fully expected them to run with Ruud for a while, see where they are at Christmas and if its ok give it to the end of the season.

I'd obviously prefer it was Southgate instead of Amorim but does it really matter....the job in hand is a poisoned chalice at this stage. Amorim..or whoever...will spend 2 years trying to de-Ajax the playing squad and getting rid of ageing but expensive deadwood like Maguire, Evans, Shaw, Casemiro, Eriksen.

That club is a toxic mix of egos & personalities at all levels...even in some game recently the camera panned to the stand and the Ineos management structure resembled something like a Soviet Politburo from the early 80s...a whole load of dour men in overcoats all carrying their own agendas.

Utd are at a minimum 5 years from being a force again and that's assuming everything goes well from here on. I wouldn't be losing sleep over it.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is how a lot of Liverpool fans are feeling to be honest. We've seen quite a few managers in the ~10 years since SAF retired by now and they all failed in the league, as long as I don't see a sustained improvement over a considerable period of time, I'm not worried about who you appoint. As the poster said, rather Southgate than someone like Amorim obviously (a lot of Liverpool fans wanted him for ourselves after Klopp), but I don't think anyone is actually worried who you get at this point.

Disagree with the last sentence about being 5 years away though. If you get the right person things can start to click straight away and you could be firmly in the top 4 conversation as early as next year.

Chelsea are proof of this. They aren’t ready to challenge yet and their style of play means they’ll concede but actually they have to be fighting villa for 4th. They are on the cusp. It started to click under Poch and now it’s looking like next season they could challenge.

And still, he got sacked after one year and they've improved significantly this season.

What are the odds that Amorim gets sacked if he doesn't get top-4 next season? Not saying I want him to be. Just pointing out that Chelsea and us, not the same.

The Chelsea buying model and long contracts was bizarre and didn’t work. They bought twice as many players as they needed in the hope that half would work out and they could sell the rest for profit. Strange strategy which resulted in some good players getting sold.
My point is that Chelsea have won the champions league in 2021 but finished 4th, 3rd, 12th, 6th and are now likely top 4 again.
Utd should be 6th to 4th this season with this squad, there no excuses. It’s underachievement.

It kinda has worked out. They’ve loopholed PSR.

They spread the cost over a long period, then they sell the player the following season or the season after that. From a PSR point of view it means the player only adds sometimes £8-10m per season they are at the club but if they then sell them for £30-40m it’s an immediate injection of cash as far as FFP/PSR is concerned that financial year.

They might make actual accounting loses on the players here and there but as far as the sporting rules go that doesn’t matter and leaves them highly liquid for the squad building.

The bottom half of that post isn't quite right.

Say they bought someone for 80m for ease of numbers and on an 8 year contract. That's 10m per season. If they sold after 2 years for 50m on the PSR front they'd be -10m for that season the same as if they'd kept the asset.
 
The thing with the Utd job is the one taking over the reigns has to be a powerful manager who has been there and done it-needs to be in order to have power over the egos. Any weakness -like "what has he won" -would be exploited by the egos and you'd have downing tools as has happened with ETH and Rangnick. The manager has to be the most powerful and not the other way around and that power and respect only comes with gravitas. ETH had none of that so players ran rings around him.

Bit rich listening to Liverpool fans try to downplay Amorim and his achievements when 6 months ago most of us were very excited at the idea of him taking over here. It's bitter to suddenly change your tune now it looks like he's going United.

The truth is they're getting one of the best young managers around that looks like he has that special something. Problem is he's walking into what is still a huge mess. Whether he eventually turns them round remains to be seen.

In the meantime United aren't any of our business and don't deserve to have the most active thread on the club's official forum.

Don’t care if he is a good manager or not, I want the United circus/party to continue so I am fully backing him to flop in the premier league.

He has an uphill battle ahead, as I have mentioned before, the deluded united fans want instant results, that itself is impossible, because the vast majority of the squad is useless.

He is going to suffer the same fate as those before him, United hate losing to us and City and it is only a matter of time before either team gives Amorim a rude awakening, it will turn sour quickly.

They have had good managers in the past, even ten hag was a good manager until he ended up there. The problem is not the manager but everything else from the players, the owners, the directer, the ground, the training facilities and the tea lady.

Ten Hag too was indeed a very highly rated manager…. But then he went to United.

A young unproven manager with those massive ego’s is never going to work. This is just a Portuguese Ten Hag.

If i was in his position, i genuinely wouldn't go for United either, i'm not just saying that because I would be worried about my reputation when leaving but again that's negative thinking and he's all about being positive which is why he's in this position as a manager so early in his career as a coach. He may also think the call from United doesn't come very often IF at all.....what if i miss out and the fella that comes in does well and he's there for 7 - 8 years. He may not look at the previous failures of the other managers because thinking positively, he'll be saying to himself, they are going to get the appointment right soon and then that call won't happen. I need to act now. Who knows.

As far as the deadwood, 2026 is massive for United because i believe there are a lot of contracts up that summer. So in 18 months, half way through an initial contract he can really buy and build his squad then and between now and then he can implement that playing style and find out who can stay or leave for a free. I think on that front that's perfect for him.

Amorim is a great manager and he's probably the best choice for United at this point in time.

I'm hoping that the club will be too big for him and he will struggle to handle the pressure. He might be the type of manager that is best suited to managing slightly smaller clubs that are the underdogs like Poch/Emery. They both struggled when they took on bigger jobs at PSG/Arsenal.

Losing a game at Sporting isn't the same as losing at United. When United lose he has to deal with former legends like Keane/Neville slagging him off in front of millions while Fergie looms over his shoulder from the stands. The media will be all over him if things get off to a rocky start and social media will be on his back as well.

He has to deal with ego's in the dressing room like Rashford/Bruno who expect to start every week regardless of how well they are playing. If he annoys them things will start being leaked to the press that will put more pressure on his shoulders. It's a rotten club really and it's not a surprise that everyone who takes the job fails.

Having said all of that I would not be shocked if he succeeds there. He's a great young manager who forms real connections with his players and motivates them to overachieve and win trophies.

If he's this influential then just make him manager instead, we could do with that kind of leadership.

Sounds like an interview in The Athletic with Solskjaer. Pretty much covers his grievances with the behaviour of players who acted against the interests of the collective.
