Starting 11

Van der Sar (8) Guardian  Commanded his area and was on hand to make several crucial saves. Kept his nerve throughout.

Rafael (6) Terrier. Good defensive shift against stronger opponents. Also showed desire to attack but was subbed with injury.
Ferdinand (8) Resolute. Produced crucial interventions at the back and kept defence intact. Read the play expertly to keep our lead.
Vidic (7) Solid. Won his aerial battles throughout the game. Also nullified the Chelsea threat from start to finish.
Evra (6) Lifesaver. Important goal line clearance in addition to some good defensive work. Passed and moved well in the final third. Got lucky.

Valencia (8) Versatile. Used his speed, strength and delivery to dominate the right flank. Also handled the RB spot brilliantly.
Carrick (9) Architect  Accurate passing from midfield and bravery in the tackle. His intelligence and composure executed our game plan.
Giggs (8) Progressive. Clever passing in front of goal. Appreciated space well and encouraged our attacking play. Assisted Rooney.
Park (7) Workhorse. Gave opposition very little space to operate in. Played his part in attack and had a shot blocked.

Rooney (8) Dangerman  Showed passion both offensively and defensively. Treasured the ball and had good awareness throughout. Scored opening goal.
Hernandez (7) Swift. His outstanding movement gave opponents problems. Also tracked back and linked well with team mates.

Subs

Nani (6) Lively. Showed good speed and delivered some crosses. Had a low shot saved.
Berbatov (5) Short cameo. Made an effort to win and keep the ball.
Smalling (N/A) No time.

Overall (8) Karma. We put in another dominant away performance against Chelsea and finally we get some luck at Stamford Bridge. Despite moments of worry we looked in control and never at risk of defeat. It's all set up nicely for the second leg.

VDS - 8 Shit-kicking (shit kicking)
Rafael - 7 Stop playing on when you're injured. Stop it. Otherwise, good.
Evra - 7 Karate!!
Ferdinand - 9 feck off Torres
Vidic - 7 feck off Drogba
Valencia - 8 Right back in form (ha ha ha please kill me)
Carrick - 8 85 minutes of superb, 5 of nervy shite
Giggs - 7 Made the goal, shrugged his shoulders, carried on being a legend
Park - 7 feck off Mikel
Rooney - 9 Loved the finish, and superb passing throughout
Hernandez - 7 Excellent movement as always

Nani - 7 Found time for one excellent cross and wasn't too far away from scoring. Looked fine with Valencia behind him without it descending into a Jacko lookalike competition.
Berbatov - 6 Sometimes wants a little too long on the ball

van der Sar - 8 - Great save. Everything was perfect from him today, shouldn't have been booked.

Rafael - 7 - Did very well, but shouldn't have stayed in that tackle with Drogba. Another show of slight inexperience, but luckily it didn't cost us.

Ferdinand - 9 - My MotM. Brilliant defending and I loved how he wound Torres up on multiple occasions.

Vidic - 8 - Was fantastic as well. Didn't let anything slip, bossed Drogba (and Torres for that matter).

Evra - 6 - Decent, but looked like he was feeling the pace. Probably a penalty, but got away with it.

Valencia - 8 - Threatening, but I wish he went at Ashley Cole a bit more as he usually has the beating of him. Had to switch to Right Back and if you didn't know, you wouldn't have thought he hadn't played there before.

Carrick - 8 - Maybe his best performance of the season? Defensively sound, great passing ability shown.

Giggs - 8 - Very good. Tried a bit too much at times, but great touch and assist for the goal.

Park - 7 - Defensively sound, but despite getting in position didn't really make the right decisions in the final third.

Rooney - 8 - Good play and touch for the most part. Showed a lot of self control after some bad tackles, didn't dive in. Quality finish.

Hernandez - 7 - Lead the line well, movement is obviously a strong point. Gave the ball away more than usual, but still a good performance.

Nani - 6 - Fine, but didn't create what we have come to expect this season.

Berbatov - 6 - Not enough time to make an impact, but did what he was brought on to do.

Smalling - N/A

VDS - 8 Such a calming influence. Stunning save from Torres' header

Rafael - 6.5 A bit off the pace before he got injured.
Rio - 9 Awesome. Remarkable performance given that he hadnt played in two months. First to everything.
Vidic - 8 Didnt notice him that much but dominated aerially
Evra - 5 Shocking. Skinned repeatedly. Was on a different wavelength to his teammates. Great goalline clearance. Needs a rest

Valencia - 7.5 Never really got at Cole but put in a great shift
Carrick - 8.5 His best performance in 2 years
Giggs - 8 Kept things ticking over nicely.
Park - 7.5 Worked his ass off. Still a bit rusty.

Rooney - 8 In a very good run of form. Tidy finish. Great energy.
Hernandez - 7 Good movement. Touch wasnt great. Found it difficult to hold the ball up and was bullied a lot by Terry

VDS - 8 - Was in command of his box. Couple of good saves. One of Torres and one of Drogba.
Rafael - 8 - Did an excellent job. Handled Drogba's physicality quite well inspite of such a huge size difference.
Rio - 9 - Didnt look like he hasnt played for such a long time did he? Brought a calming influence to our back line and to Vidic as well.
Vidic - 7 - Looked far more relaxed and thankfully didnt get raped even once when he got pulled to the wide positions for the ever absent Evra
Evra - 5 (would have been a 4 if not for the goal line clearance) - Was quite poor. Almost all of Chelsea's attacks came from their right. Drogba vs Evra was almost a no contest. Very lucky not to concede a penalty.
Valencia - 7 - Did well enough at RM. Did far better than i expected at RB.
Carrick - 8 - good display. Superb cross field pass to Giggs. Dominated the midfield.
Giggs - 7 - great play for the goal. Got caught with the ball a few times.
Park - 6 - Similar to Giggs in terms of getting caught in possession. Did a great job defensively though.
Rooney - 8 - nice finish. Ran the game for us.
Hernandez - 6 - Was bossed by Terry. Coudnt get in behind their back four which is really his strength.
Subs:

Nani -7 - He and Valancia combined quite well to get each other in good psotions.
Berbatov -6 - Was brought on to hold the ball upfront. Could really manage to do it as well though.

VDS-9 Did absolutely nothing wrong, great game.

Rafael-7 Good, but stop getting friggin injured ~_~
Rio-9 Colossal
Vidic-8 Really good, great to see this partnership back for the run in
Evra-6 Not a great game, but gets a bonus point for the goal line clearance

Valencia-7 Worked hard, best work defensively.
Carrick-9 Best game in a United shirt. He was awesome first half especially, actually looking for (and executing) forward passes and bossing midfield.
Giggs-8 Started A little sketchy, but unbelievable touch for the goal and played well after.
Park-8 All over the pitch, was everywhere.

Rooney-9
Hernandez-7.5 Did his best work chasing back.

VDS - Has surpassed Schmeichel. Best in the world 8

Rafael - hardman 6
Rio - he's been injured for two months apparently 8
Vidic - rape 8
Evra - dire. Slow, unbalanced, weak. Brilliant block on the line though. Needs a rest 5

Valencia - he's been injured for six months apparently. His re-entry into the side has actually been ridiculous. He could actually be a right back. Like a proper one. 7
Carrick - yes 9
Giggs - only slightly less yes than Giggs 8
Park - big game player 7

Chica - flitted in and out of it 6
Rooney - MOTM 9

Nani - still getting there after his injury 6

VDS- 8.5

Rio - 8

Valencia - 6
Carrick - 7
Giggs - 7
Park - 6

Rooney - 8
Hernandez - 6

VDS - 7 He wasn't booked for letting Vidic take a goal kick, he was booked for attempting to hold a mid game committee with Vidic about which side of the goal he wanted to take the kick from.

Rafael - 6 Why wasn't Fabio on the bench?...because both twins have now merged into the same body, whilst maintaining separate personalities ..."I'm severely injured, I can't walk.....no actually I'm fine, couldn't feel better.....AAARRRGHH! my leg, it's severely injured, why am I getting up?"
Rio - 8 It was strangely symbolic when he picked Torres up as if he was a puppet on a string
Vidic - 7 Played well AND managed not to try and get himself sent off
Evra - I don't like this new Evra. He's basically a nerf torpedo with a face.

Valencia - 6 Solid performance, though there were two occasions we should have been in on goal, but ended up with nothing due to Valencia overhitting a simple pass. You don't usually get away with being wasteful in games like these.
Carrick - 8 Sorely needed Scholsey alongside him for the last 15 minutes, but before that was too busy immitating him. Memo to Fergie: This is what happens when you put him next to a playmaking midfield partner, instead of a water carrier.
Giggs - 7 Excellent first half. Struggled with the game a bit in the second.
Park - 6 Human QWOP machine

Rooney - 8 Good game. Probably picked his nose or something at some point though, so obviously an outrage, should be banned, poor role model, working class scumbag, etc...now one of you plebs attach my computer screen to the ceiling, so I may gaze upon it without lowering the angle of my nose.
Hernandez - 7 Ran around. Was well marshalled for the most part. Terry actually had a decent game.

Subs:

Nani - Wingerang. I was half expecting Obertan to levitate down from a spaceship and replace Patrice Evra.
Berbatov - 6 baffling counter productive substitutuion time.

Townsend - What the feck was he on about all night? On the occasions I was actually listening to him, he seemed to have finally detached from reality and was in the midst of some fairy ridden hallucination.

Chelsea dad mocking:

Commentator: "But then, what can't you buy when you have as much money as Abramovic?"
brother: "A good football team"
me: "a noisy crowd"
Chelsea dad: *scowls in silence*
