How would you rate the following youth midfield prospects? This is a question posed more towards the regular watchers of the academy teams....

Ben Pearson
Andreas Pereira
Tom Lawrence
Josh Harrop
Matt Willock
Sean Goss

Are any destined to be a United first team player? I know its difficult to tell, but sometimes, its quite easy to tell how talented a youngster is (see Pogba, Morrison, Januzaj)

Are any of the above in the same category? Or more likely similar to Cleverley, Lingard? Or not likely to even make the senior squad?

From the little I've seen, I think Pereira can get to first team level, and potentially Pearson, although with Pearson I'm guessing more Cleverley level. Don't watch them all that often though so probably not the best opinion.

Thanks bosnian....he was the most high profile youth signing among that list, but I do remember hearing very good thingsabout Pearson, but I guess he is more well-rounded, not so much flair as Pereira, so probably wouldn't shine in youtube videos as much. But like what I am hearing about him.
Also saw the recent clip of Goss and very impressed. Nice left peg on him, very elegant.
What can people say about Harrop, Lawrence and Willock? Not seen anything about the first 2, but Lawrence was supposed to have impressed last season and won one of the club awards, if I'm not mistaken?

The trouble with rating the likes of Harrop, Willock and Goss is that there has been very few U18 matches on MUTV this season. Harrop has definitely been one of our best U18 players this season though.

Pearson and Andreas have got a good chance to make it, Pearson IMO should make it. Don't think Tom Lawrence will, he'll be a good player in the ilk of Chris Eagles etc. Obviously with youth players it's all speculation.

Lawrence is the odd one out in the list really.. He's 2/3 years older than the others and plays as a winger/behind the striker. And no he didn't win one of the awards last year. Replace him with Rothwell and you've got a list of some very good midfield prospects

oh yes, I forgot about joe rothwell. I think Lawrence won an award the previous year then?
What kind of player is Harrop? Skilful? Combative? Who is he most similar to in the current Utd team? Same question about Rothwell.

Harrop is a skillful, quick, right footed left midfielder. Along the lines of a Nasri, or if we're being very bold a Ribery. Obviously a huge amount of work needed to be anywhere near as good as either of them, but those are the kinds of skillful right footed left sided players he's reminded me of a couple of times with some of his work.

Harrop looking good in recent games. Only seen Goss twice and looks decent. Pearson still further down the road than the rest currently.

Left-sided? Very rarely, much more likely to be found on the right or in the centre.

I wouldnt know, only saw WBA and highlights of shakhatar. Ty for the correction then. How does his play differ on the right? Crosses more?

Yes. He cuts inside a fair bit from the right as well but his excellent crossing ability is more prominent when he plays on the right. One of the best things about him though is how naturally he tweaks his game to look comfortable at either flank or in the middle.

I agree that Rothwell should be on the list. He was rated every bit as highly as Pearson a few years ago but injuries have taken their toll on his progression since then.

Pereira has the ability to play in the first-team, as does Harrop for me. I've seen little bits of Goss, and he looks the real deal. Pearson has looked excellent, although I'm undecided if that will not level out as he moves up.

Pereira is the standout, but his progress has not been as good expected, this season is a big one but hard to judge given no games are on MUTV. Pearson looks good, mature in his play but again you are looking for a progression this season, Harrop has progressed no doubt to a level to be considered. Lawrence was on the right track before the injury but doubtful now. Will Keane after the injury has grown and filled out has he still got the ice cool head in the box and ability to finish not infringed by the frame he is carrying? Lingard is the next academy player to play for the first team, no question.
